Connor actually seems to understand, and his heels lift up ever so slightly. A sign of enjoyment, i've noticed within humans. Maybe he isn't so different on this end after all.

"Oh, I got one!" I whisper, making sure only they can hear me. "What is a robots favorite band?" After a few moment of stares, I respond, "METAL-ica!"

Connor glances up at the ceiling, but it suddenly seems to click. He managed a laugh, his light flickering if only for a second.

Normally, he blends in well. He stays quiet, does his work, and is kind. Stays out of people's way. Seeing him like this, being able to just be.. human..

It's refreshing.

A few hours later, while scrolling through my endless list of cases, I see Markus.

His face is plastered as a "Destroyed Deviant", and after reading the description, I see the note that Carl is in the hospital.

What the hell happened?!?

I spring up from my chair, quickly grabbing only the necessary items and attempting (to the best of my broken abilities) to run to my car. Immediately I feel a hand push back against me, grabbing my arm and waist. "Where are you going, are you alright-?"

I turn around, pushing out of the persons grip. I see Connor, his eyes glimmering. His hands still lay in the air, stunned. I breath out, rushing my words. "I'll be right- I'll be back. Just let me go. This is important, okay?" With no answer back, I back up and swiftly head to my car.

"Ma'am, you need to be on the visitors sheet."

"Look, lady." I mutter, "I just need to get through." When the nurse only gives me a strange look, I sigh. "Fine." I pull out my badge, to which her eyes go wide. "I'm literally a detective. Just let me through, alright?"

My arms rest along the white counter, only the sounds of monitors and coughing people around me. Her hand slowly reaches for a button behind the desk, and the doors open. I whisper a thanks before running off. Room 274, here I come.

When I slide through the door, a sense of intense silence fills the room. I see Carls eyes open slightly, wires attached to every single part of his body.

I slowly approaching his bed, my purse sliding off of my arm unintentionally. "Carl.. My name is
Y/N Collins... Detective Collins? I helped the case with Leo.. You and I became friends for a while after that?"

His brain seems to take a long time to process, but he parts his lips. "Yes.. I remember you." He tries to slide himself up the bed, groaning. "Woah, buster." I say, quickly grabbing his hands and assisting.

I slide my eyes upward and see a monitor above his head. His heart rate increases, the small movement being too much for him to handle.

When my sight wonders, I realize how empty the room is. The barren white walls, the chairs only collecting dust. No one has visited him. The reminder hits me,
he has no one.

I'm glad I came, a wave of sadness rushing over me.

He seems to click everything together, "Are my boys okay?" I smile, thinking about the three of them. Maybe in another reality, everything would be okay. My smile quickly dissipates.

"I.. I don't know Carl." I say, each word getting quieter. "I know Leo is seriously hurt, and they sent Markus to a dump. But I highly doubt either of them would go out like that."

His eyes lift to me, the color fading. "I told Markus to be himself. Find freedom."
A single stray tear gathers in the corner of his eye, thick. "Do you think he will ever be able to do that?"
