My answer is quick, swift. "Of course not. I only find emotion in one thing, this investigation. My dedication to succeed. I am not alive, I cannot feel emotion."
She smiles once again, clearly pleased.
"Good, stay that way."
I open my eyes, and exit the stall. I came to the bathroom this time because Hank is not a fan of my "reports". He complains every time, saying I look creepy. He interrupts them, so being in somewhere private works better.
I take a look in the mirror, trying to fix the singular strands I have hanging from my hair. Of course, it doesn't work. I also try to fix the imperfections in my suit, which seems to work a lot better. I put my hand over my model number that rests across my shoulder, feeling the grooves.
Letting a final sigh out, I exit the bathroom.
I walk over to Lieutenant's desk, prepared for my next task. "Lieutenant, is there any work you would like me to work on?" He jumps, clearly not knowing I was there. He yells various curses, to which I can only tilt my head to.
"Fuck Connor! First you eat blood then you come up behind people with ZERO warning." He rests his head on his hand, rubbing his eyes. "Shit."
I wait for a second or two, before he points over in the direction of a random, separate office room. "Y/N and Chris are about to go interrogate one of Ortizos neighbors. Go do that."
When I turn, I see the two leaning against the doorway, discussing something seemingly important.
I make my way over there, as they begin heading in. The door almost shuts automatically, but Y/N quickly grabs the door for me when she sees me heading her way. "You coming with us Connor?"
I nod my head, taking the door from her and sliding my way in.
I see a woman sitting down in the chair in front of us, and five chairs sitting on the other side. We walk around the desk, taking our seats.
"I hope it's okay if another person joins us... Ms.." Chris says, scanning through his papers trying to find her name. "Ms.Thompson?"
"Person my ass." She groans, putting out a cigarette. "But fine, sure. I don't care." Y/n takes a deep sigh in, clearly knowing what kind of person this lady must be. She scans through her papers and asks the first question after turning on the tape recorder. "Did you know Ortizo?"
"No."
Blunt, short response.
Chris shakes his head, writing something down on his clipboard. "Oookay. Did you know his android?"
"If I didn't know him, then how would I know the android." I can see Chris blinking slowly, clearly trying to keep his sass back in. "Have you ever heard of reports, or yourself, witnessed any violence near your house? Or anywhere in the neighborhood?" Y/N asks, leaning her shoulder forward so her arm can rest on her knee.
"Well yeah. The neighborhood is trash. Filled with terrible people. But I never heard anything out of the ordinary coming from his house, if that's what your asking."
She grunts, clearly annoyed.
I observe the two investigators, both clearly over this conversation. Chris looks pained, and y/n just seems... curious. Yet irritated. "Okay Ms.Thompson. I hear you loud and clear." She responds, writing God knows what down.
"Do you happen to own an android?" I ask, curiously.
The lady eyes me, up and down. "No."
Chris quickly sighs, "Look ma'am, the least you could do is treat the three of us with respect. We don't want to be here either, but a man was brutally murdered, stabbed 28 times, and all we need are answers. We are interrogating everyone in the neighborhood, so if you would please get that stick out of your ass?"
Silence.
Pure.
Empty.
Silence...
"Fine." Ms Thompson scoffs. I expected a way worse answer.
"Alright ma'am." Y/N continues, clearly trying to push past what just happened. "Only a few more things. We know there are several red ice users in the area, but do you know if there is one specific dealer?"
"I thought this was about an android killing a guy."
"Yes, but there is a connection here that we are trying to solve." Y/N answers, rolling her eyes up to the lady across from us. "Just answer the question."
"No, I don't know." The lady seems to stiffen, and breaks eye contact. So she definitely knows who, and is definitely getting some of these drugs for herself.
A few more standard questions pass, and with each word I can hear the boredom arise in their voices.
"Okay. Your free to go."
"Goodbye Ms-" Y/n starts, but the lady only scurries out of the office. She slams her clipboard down, "Well wasn't she just a tall glass of water."
"Tell me about it." Chris says, sinking in his chair. Y/N asks,"How did you have the balls for that?" Y/n laughs, her smile stretching across her face.
Chris throws his hands up, as if to signify he had NO clue.
I can't help but sit and process the information.. The oddness of the situation. "I'm sorry to interrupt," I say, a little louder then I meant to, "But could you explain to me what that means?"
Y/N turns her head to me, confused. "What's what mean?"
"How did you have the balls for that?" I respond, simply.
Her eyes widen, her lips pursing into her mouth. Chris only twitches his eye. Not sure what I did, I ask, "What?"
She can't help it. She breaks into laughter, her smile wider then before. Her hands cover her stomach, her feet lifting off the floor. Stray hairs cover her face, her eyes squinting. "Oh my God Connor."
Chris puffs his cheeks, trying to hold it in. "Do you not have any sense of humor?" He asks when I only stare back at them. "No," I respond, "It's not in my program."
"Well," She laughs, regaining her composure. "When your with us, your gonna learn a lot of things that are outside of your program."
She wipes her face, wiping off all the hairs and laughing tears. "It's not illegal to mess around, Connor." My name rolls off of her tongue, "If other people are laughing, you can laugh too. Even if you don't understand it, which I am NOT explaining that to you. That is something you and Chris and discuss later."
He swings his hands up again, but this time defensively. "No thanks."
She turns to him, returning back to her kneeled, laughter filled state. She seemed so professional, fake earlier. But it's nice to see the real her, the girl who isn't afraid to goof around.
"N-No Chris. You- Oh my god. I'm loosing it." I manage a small smile, "It's alright. I don't want to cause trouble."
Y/n turns back to me, a grin filling her face. "Trouble is the whole point of life. Now, you two men can talk this one out. I'm seeing myself out, exit stage left." She says, springing out of her chair and running out before Chris can run after her. I almost get up to catch her, my instincts kicking in.
But I stay, right where I am.
