"You finally reach!" shouted Radcliffe. He was waving he hand from the front porch.
One set ah teenagers was toting cases of alcohol into the house. It was 7' o clock and they was already busting out the white oak? Like I reach just in time.
"I relly thought you wasn't going and come inno," he grinned as I pulled him in for a hug.
"Where we girl is?" I asked.
He pull me through the front door and shut it behind us. The lights in the living room switched hues like they were synced to the beat and boy, was that a beat. If I was living next door, I would have sworn they was having a jouvay in this house?
"Jarvey!" shouted a tall, scrawny girl who was running over to us.
She was carrying two Carib in she hand and by the time she get here, she was out of breath, and the Carib was done.
"We was just coming to find you," said Radcliffe.
"Eh?" she squeaked, leaning closer to us. "Dey want to blow out people earbell in here. Lewwe go on the roof!"
I eh lie when I say it was trouble to leave this room. It had people sucking tongue on the staircase, and I was hearing steady moaning coming from some other room. You would think since it was a stush party, that it would have some kinda order but these people have no type of broughtupsy boy.
"At least somebody getting lucky," Radcliffe joked.
"Tusty is not a good look on you," Kat teased as she led us into one of the bedrooms.
"Me first." she said, walking up to the window and unlatching it. I was surprise it didn't have no burglar proofing. Dais how you could tell these people dem rich.
She climbed outside and hiked her way up the side of the roof and out of sight. I stuck my head out the window and it shock me how high we actually was. One misstep and my ass was flying into these people ixoras. I was never somebody to turn down ah opportunity, no matter how risky it was, so I vaulted through the window and crawled to where Kat was sitting.
All three of we was sitting in semi-silence, trying we best to ignore the fish-market downstairs. I couldn't believe we was able to get such a clear look at the stars from here. I bet the view from the academy would be even better seeing that it behind God back and it have less noise pollution.
I was eagerly waiting for somebody to break the silence. This was our last summer together before we had to go we separate ways. Kat was starting UWI and Radcliffe was going to work for he father. Finally, there was me who was booking it to a prestigious academy on some island far away.
"Promise you go call we?" Kat look like she was about to cry.
"Dais if he could get service in the bush," Radcliffe added.
"Duh," I replied. "It have cellphone towers there inno."
Kat sat up and tied her hair into a ponytail. Her brows only moving as if something was bothering she.
"Yuh wouldn't forget we, right? Is- is just that we did everything together since forever."
"Kat-"
"Promise me," she commanded, staring me down.
"I promise."
Her tense shoulders eventually relaxed as she lowered her head back onto Radcliffe's shoulder. I was relly going and miss them but I know they going and do just fine without me. Kat is the smartest person I know and Radcliffe have a business to take over one day. I still trying to find my purpose in life. I need time to narrow it down and, unfortunately, I doh think I could find the answers in this town. I need to be in a new place. A place to focus. A place like Old Country.
