On the Woljeongri beach an orange hue stretched across the sky and met the dark ocean along the horizon. The sky along with the orange hue had blends of reds and yellows melting into each other to create an astonishing skyline.
Seagulls were soaring through the air and swooping down to land atop a sand dune. The clouds were a dark silhouette with bright gold beams of light radiating through. The waves had made a soothing crashing noise as if they were trying to soothe a soul.
Jeju was always known for soothing souls.
Amongst the susurration of the waves and the distant chatter of the tourists, he could clearly hear the loud giggles of his kids, playing in the cold water. "Small kids make sandcastles, big ones like us play in the water!" Their son, Yejun had announced before running bare feet into the grainy sand that appeared like millions of sugar crystals, followed by his sister Jinjoo.
Listening to his son's statement and his daughter's excitement to join her brother, Minho turned to his husband, "It's your turn today Chris." watching the male wear his snapback, and give him his signature toothy grin, before pecking his lips and following the two six year olds to the beach.
That was two hours ago.
"Junnie, Jinnie!" He called out, from the threshold of their home, their safe place. "Time for dinner!"
"Coming Dad!" Chan's voice echoed, followed by small voices parroting their father.
This was calm.
And he liked this calm.
A small giggle slipped off his lips, on hearing the cheers and hollers of the twins followed by the panicked shouts of their father asking them not to run into the house being all wet, who, he was sure, would be the first one to walk in, staining the floor with water and the sand stuck on his head, definitely the work of the twins.
"Dad, look!" Jinjoo ran towards him, holding out her cupped hands. "Juju oppa helped me find shells!" She exclaimed, feeling proud of herself for calling her brother the name he despised.
"Hey! My name is Yejun! Not Juju! Yejun! Don't call me that." He pulled on his sister's pigtail with a pout, making the girl whine.
"You are mean!" She pushed her brother away.
"Here here, my little angels, we should not fight." Minho separated them, making sure they are at a good distance from each other, sending a smile to Chan, who had finally reached the trio.
"Now champs," Chan kneeled at their height, placing his hand on either's shoulder "What do we say?"
The two brown haired kids looked at each other with a pout, slowly extending their right hands and shaking them "I'm sorry."
Minho watched them interact with a fond smile, 'What would I do if they were not a part of my life?'
"Now Jinnie, give your shells to dad so that he can keep them with your other collections." The male patted his daughter's head, who scrunched her nose in confusion.
"But even I can put them there pa."
"You are all wet Jinnie." Her brother shook his head, "You'll create a mess and then dad and pa would have to clean everything again."
Hearing her brother's words, the six year old gasped, gray eyes widened in realization as she immediately grabbed the cap from her father's hand, putting all her shells in it and stretching her hand towards the elder male. "Dad, can you keep these in our playroom, please ?"
The puppy eyes given by the little girl made both Minho and Chan coo at their daughter's adorableness. "Of course baby." He took the cap from her hands. "Now go ahead and wash up before the table is set."
