Ranpo always gets lost when going to solve a case, so Fukuzawa designated Dazai as his "security guard". The truth is that Dazai begged to him bc his first options were Kunikida or Kenji, but he promised to do a good job and that not a single kidnapper, terrorist or mafia member would touch Ranpo.
Dazai only wanted that bc they weren't together THAT much and he didn't want to wait till the end of the day to be with him.
He actually got kidnapped the first day and Dazai had to call Atsushi to help him. (They didn't tell Fukuzawa, Kunikida did)
