Chapter 2: Particle Accelerator

Start from the beginning

Barry grins and nodded his head. Dad sighed and shook his head.

Harrison: "As a forensic assistant."

Oh, that's what he is? Yep, that doesn't really do much, I mean they are needed and all, but I know cops wouldn't let them do their job, as in go after the bad guys.

Barry: "You're responsible for this, for him!"

How dare he blame only my dad for this mess, when we ALL caused this mess! Not just my dad!

Jesse: "Hey, my dad isn't the only one who made the particle accelerator, you know! Sure he's the one that funded it and the one that made the plan, but he had a team help build it! Don't go around and blame just my dad!"

Dad looked up at me and smiled, he grabbed my hand. He looked back at Barry.

Harrison: "What's important is you and my daughter. Not me, I lost everything. I lost my company. I lost my reputation. I lost my freedom. I almost lost my daughter. And then, you broke your arm and it healed in three hours. My daughter breaks her ankle and it heals in three hours. Inside both your bodies could be a map to a whole new world. Genetic therapies, vaccines, medicines, treasures buried deep within your cells and we can not risk losing everything because you want to go out and play hero! You're not a hero. You are just a young man who was struck by lightning."

Barry glared at dad shocked and hurt. He stormed out of the lab, and dad sighed. I knew he was too harsh on Barry, but he needed that. He JUST got his powers, and he wants to run around the city saving people.

Jesse: "Don't worry dad, he needed that. I mean, Barry just got his powers, and he's already planning on running around the city saving people. He's going to get himself hurt, or worse someone else killed."

Dad smiled and nodded his head.

Harrison: "So, I guess you would want to train your powers?"

I grinned and nodded my head. Cisco looked too excited about this.

Cisco: "And I have the perfect equipment for it!"

Well, I signed up for this, so there is no backing out now.

Barry did come back and placed two boxes on the desk. I know what he is up to, he wants to go out and play hero, what my dad told him not to do!

Barry: "I've been going over unsolved cases from the past nine months, and there's been a sharp increase in unexplained deaths and missing people. Your Meta-humans have been busy. Now, I'm not blaming you. I know you didn't mean for any of this to happen. I know you all lost something. But I need your help to catch Mardon and anyone else out there like him. But I can't do it without you."

Wait, so he doesn't blame them for what happened, and understands that they lost something, but doesn't do the same with my father?

Cisco: "If we're gonna do this, I have something that might help. Something I've been playing with."

He walks over to a wall, and it reveals a suit that I've never seen before. Cisco likes to make things.

Cisco: "Designed to replace the turnnots firefighters traditionally wear. I thought if S.T.A.R. Labs could do something nice for the community, maybe people wouldn't be so angry at Dr. Wells anymore."

Aw, he did all of that for dad! That's so sweet!

Barry: "How is it going to help me?"

What, is he an idiot? I mean, most firefighter suits are fire-resistant! So they don't catch on fire! When we speed, our clothes end up burning! So it's obvious that this suit is made the same way, probably better since Cisco made it.

Jesse: "It's probably fire resistant since that's how firefighter's suits are. It's probably better though since Cisco made it."

Cisco grinned, he seemed happy about what I said. Barry looked back at me, but I looked away from him. I just can't stand to look at the future killer, who killed my family.

Cisco: "Jesse is right, it's made of a reinforced tri-polymer. It's heat and abrasive-resistant, so it should withstand your moving at high-velocity speeds. And the aerodynamic design should help you maintain control, plus it has a built-in sensor, so we can track your vitals and stay in contact with you from here. I'll make one for you as well, Jesse."

Oh, god no. I would NEVER do what Barry does. Sure, it would be nice to help people, but I can do that as a normal human being. I do NOT want to be labeled as a superhero and be praised by people.

Jesse: "I'm good. I can help people without powers."

They looked at me unsure, like what, a girl can't make her own decisions?

Cisco: "Um, sure. But if you ever change your mind. I'll make your suit, and pick your superhero name!"

Jesse: "Fine deal."

Cisco seemed happy about that, and I just left the Cortex to let them do whatever they want to do. Dad isn't going to be too happy about Barry not listening to him.

(Time skip)

Dad and I walk back into the Cortex to see Cisco and Caitlin talking to Barry on the comns. So he went out to stop Mardon after all?  Though Barry doesn't sound like everything is going as he had imagined.

Barry: "It's too strong!"

Dad wheeled over to them, and got between them. I zipped over to him, causing papers to fly. Dad grabbed the mic to talk to Barry.

Harrison: "You can do this, Barry. You were right. I am responsible for all of this."

I wouldn't say all of it, but whatever makes Barry feel happy.

Harrison: "So many people have been hurt because of me, and when I looked at you, all I saw was another victim of my hubris. And yes, I created this madness, but you, Barry, you can stop it. You can do this. Now run, Barry, run!"

We all waited with baited breaths, we heard gunshots, and I held onto my dad's arm for support. Did someone shoot Barry, or did he shoot Mardon and kill him? Is he just as heartless as I thought?

Harrison: "Barry?"

Barry: "It's over. I'm okay."

They let out a breath of relief, and I felt shocked. Wait, so did he kill Mardon? Dad grabbed my hand and wheeled me out of the cortex. We went home, and the moment we got home, dad...he stood up. I looked at him shocked.

Jesse: "What?"

Harrison: "Let me explain Jesse."

I nodded my head and followed dad to the kitchen. I sat at the counter as he poured himself something to drink.

Harrison: "When I was found, I was put right next to you. I saw how hurt you were, and I felt so guilty. Because of my actions, you got hurt. I couldn't live with it. So I pretended to be paralyzed to ease some of that guilt. So please do not tell people about this?"

I looked at him shocked, but I also felt so bad. He feels guilty for me getting hurt even though, it wasn't his fault that I did.

Jesse: "Dad, it's okay. It wasn't your fault in the first place. But I won't tell anyone."

Dad smiled and walked over to me and pulled me into a hug. I hugged him back. He cooked dinner, and then we got ready for bed. I went to my room and wrote in my diary. I logged in what happened today and talked about how I felt about Barry Allen. They weren't good feelings. After that, I put my diary away, and turned off my light, then slowly fell asleep.
