Princess Evelyn of Pahalam strutted across the red carpet as a guard introduced her.
The crowd watched in horror as she speed-walked, a not very princess like thing to do. She wished she could get this finished, her mother sat on her throne glaring at her, no doubt she was angry at her disrespectful manner. She dared to look at her father whose glare was even more frightening. In fear, she walked slower and finally made it to the front of the room where she stood facing the crowd. It was her coronation day, and she would receive her new crown, one that was passed down through many generations, but it was as beautiful as it had always been. She took a deep breath and held her head high. Suddenly, a loud banging noise caught her attention, she turned around and gasped. Her crown, the one she was going to receive, was shattered. How could someone be so careless as to drop her crown? The crowd started chattering, and her father started yelling. Evelyn's vision began to spin, the coronation was ruined. Her vision went black and she felt her head hit the ground.
Evelyn woke up gasping. Had all that been a dream? Thank goodness. How many dreams had she had of her coronation being a train wreck? Oh god do not let this happen. Evelyn was the princess of Pahalam, a small country in Asia. She was twenty soon and she still had nightmares of big events such as this. Just as she was about to go back to sleep, a knock came at the door. Was it morning already? She sat up.
"Who's there?" She asked, her voice cracking.
"It's Darla." her maidservant replied.
"Oh yes, come in Darla." she leaned back on her pillow and rubbed her eyes.
She heard the door open but struggled to open her eyes again.
"Your mother wants me to help you get ready for the coronation, she has told me how she wants your hair to look, and which dress you are to wear."
Her coronation was today? She did not realise what day it was.
"Why can't mother let me choose for myself?"
"I'm sorry your highness." Darla said sympathetically.
"Please, call me Evelyn, you're my friend."
"Of course, your... Evelyn" she giggled.
Darla was close to her own age, she had thick dark hair that went down to her shoulders and a similar colour skin as her, an ochre colour. Her eyes were unusually dark green. She was a sweet girl, very chatty but listens well.
"Okay, I suppose I must get up and let you do my hair and clothes." Evelyn yawned.
"Take your time princess Evelyn." she smiled as she opened the closet.
"Thank you, but I don't want you getting in trouble by my mum because of me." she forced herself up and she sat on the edge of the bed.
"Darla" she began.
"Yes?"
"I keep having dreams that the coronation will be a disaster, do you think it means anything?"
"Oh" Darla seemed to be thinking for a minute.
"I think you're just scared; I don't know what could go wrong to be honest, what sort of nightmares have you had?"
"Well one time I tripped over and embarrassed myself, and in many I have fainted, or the crown has broken. Maybe it is telling me my future, that I should not deserve the crown" she explained.
"Don't worry Evelyn, everything will be fine, of course you deserve the crown" Darla walked up to her and gave her a hug.
"Thank you, for being very nice to me, my own mother hates me"
