───── ❝ Dead of Night ❞ ─────

Taehyung and Jungkook drove up to the huge store, its glass walls reflecting the dim light of the streetlamps. It was well past midnight and the parking lot was deserted, except for the lone sleeping security guard in his booth. The only sound coming from their car engine. The building towered above them, its dramatic façade casting shadows that seemed to stretch out towards them menacingly. The store looked massive and imposing even in the darkness of the night. Taehyung couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off, but he couldn't put his finger on what it was.

The night air was chilly and Taehyung couldn't help but shiver as he got out of the car and made his way towards the entrance, Jungkook following closely behind him. He inspected the area around the door carefully, looking for any signs of forced entry or tampering. His suspicions raised when he saw a torn piece of cloth stuck in the door frame.

He took out his gloves and carefully extracted the piece of cloth, examining it under the flashlight. It seemed like a piece of a shirt, but the fabric was unfamiliar to him, so he just tucked it into a cover and pushed it inside his pocket.

He tried the handle, but it wouldn't budge. He tried again, putting his weight into it, but the door remained firmly shut. He stepped back, deep in thought. This was unusual - why would the door be locked when the  store was supposed to be open 24/7?

He felt around his pockets, trying to find something like a hair pin so that he could pick the lock. Meanwhile, Jungkook had spotted the sleeping security guard and started to play around, making faces and taking silly selfies with him. Taehyung rolled his eyes at Jungkook's behavior and snapped at him to keep quiet, reminding him that they were there on official police business.

Taehyung was never a fan of listing out all the unfortunate events that took place in his life, but if he had one, he'd definately be adding the part of his first case where he had to get paired up with the most arrogant, childish, mannerless, bratty bastard in the whole department!

Taehyung was already frustrated enough, he didn't have any patience to deal with Jungkook.

Trying to open the door again, this time impatiently turning the knob, Taehyung let out an angry groan.

Just then, Jungkook nudged him aside and kicked open the door with a single swift motion. Taehyung jumped back in surprise, looking around nervously as Jungkook strode inside, smirking. Taehyung couldn't help but feel annoyed at Jungkook's cavalier attitude, especially since they were supposed to be discreet and not draw any attention to themselves.

"See? Easy," he said, his voice echoing through the empty store. Jungkook grinned smugly, clearly enjoying the moment.

"Be quiet," Taehyung hissed, following Jungkook inside. "We don't know who might be here."

But Jungkook just shrugged and kept walking, his footsteps echoing through the empty store. Taehyung, however, was on high alert as followed behind him, his eyes scanning the area for any signs of life.

The store was massive, with row after row of shelves stacked high with boxes and merchandise. It was dark and quiet, the only sound the distant hum of the air conditioning. Taehyung felt a shiver run down his spine as he realized just how alone they were in this vast, empty space.

As they continued to walk through the store, Taehyung couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. The air felt heavy and oppressive, and he felt like they were being watched.

Taehyung felt suspicious of the whole scenario. Why was the store locked up tight, and why was there no one around at this time of night? It all seemed too perfect, too staged. Taehyung couldn't help but wonder if they had walked right into a trap, with the killer waiting for them somewhere in the shadows.

"He Ho!" Taehyung jumped at the sudden cry of Jungkook. He whipped his head towards him only to find the alpha laughing his ass off. No doubt.

Why was Taehyung even surprised? Jungook, ever since they'd entered, was wandering around like a kid in a candy store, poking at things and making random comments about the merchandise.

Taehyung gritted his teeth, feeling his patience wearing really thin.

"Jungkook, can you please focus?" he said sharply. "We're not here to play around. We need to find any clues that might help us catch the killer."

Jungkook rolled his eyes, but he seemed to take the hint and settled down a bit. Taehyung continued to move through the store, his senses on high alert. He had a feeling that they were walking into a trap, but he couldn't quite figure out what form it might take.

Suddenly, they heard a faint rustling noise coming from the back of the store. Taehyung's grip on his gun tightened, and he motioned for Jungkook to follow him. As they made their way towards the back, the rustling sound grew louder and more frantic.

When they finally reached the source of the noise, they found a security guard sleeping on the job, he was spawled out on the floor, mouth wide open. Taehyung couldn't help but feel a little relieved, but he knew that something was still off.

"Why would the security guard be sleeping during his shift?" Taehyung muttered, his eyes scanning the area, then landed on Jungkooks serious expression.

But Jungkook's expression didn't relax. He  immediately drew his gun, and turned and stared walking towards the edge of the store, as if he'd sensed something. Taehyung, called out behind him, nonetheless, followed him.

Taehyung couldn't shake off the feeling that something was very wrong. It was almost as if someone was watching them, waiting to strike.

The store was eerily quiet, the only sound being their footsteps echoing through the halls.  Taehyung's suspicions only grew stronger as he moved deeper into the store following Jungkook. He couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched.

As they turned a corner, his eyes went wide and Taehyung froze in his tracks. He saw something that made his blood run cold. All his suspicions were confirmed when he caught a glimpse of the sight.

On the wall, written in blood, was a message: "You're too late". It was then that Taehyung knew that their suspect was not just a simple criminal, but a ruthless killer who was always one step ahead. Below the message, on the cold floor, was a dead body, lying motionless on the floor. The tag shone bright and clear in the dim light, reading 'manager.'

Question Of The Chapter:

The receipt lead them to a merchendise store. What would the killer doing there? And why did he kill the manager a day later? Do you think he knows about the investigation, or was it an act of anger?

Was a short chapter, but if I kept going, it would be too long...
