"Is this a game of tag?"
JJ asked, wondering about what the letter was for.

"I don't know."
Kie replied, pacing to an empty spot she laid her eyes on.

"Pope, you're driving me insane. Please tell us what's going on."
Isla spoke to her friend as they all sat down.

"Okay, so that guy was from the scholarship committee. Take a look at this."
He explained, handing JJ the letter, who without a second thought, ripped the letter open to see what was inside.

"Read it."
Pope told him, giving JJ consent to start reading.

"Out loud."
Kiara added, not wanting to wait any longer.

JJ just stared at the letter in confusion, looking around for help.
"I can't read cursive."

Kiara looked at him suspiciously while Isla took the letter from his hands, gifting him a kind smile when he looked at her.
"That's okay,"
She told him, sitting down on one of the desks before reading the letter out loud.

"Dear mister Heyward,
Imam reaching out because I have material evidence that can exonerate John B. Routledge. It is of vital importance that you come and meet me in person at my offices at 27 king street, Charleston at 8:00 pm. Sharp tonight. Please come alone.
Regards,
C. Limbrey."

Isla looked up from the letter, meeting eyes with her friends, who all wore shocked expressions on their faces.

"Charleston?"
JJ asked annoyed.

"That's like an eight hour drive, plus the ferry,"
Isla groaned in annoyance. She knew they didn't have much of a choice, but that didn't mean she was looking forward to spending eight hours in a car.

"How are we gonna get there tonight?!"
Pope started to freak out, pacing around the room as he did so.

"We'd have to leave right now."
JJ concluded.

"I have a free period."
Kiara negotiated, earning a confused stare from her best friend.

"' material evidence' what does that even mean? Material evidence?"
JJ studied the letter, reading through it again.

"It means he can clear John B."
Kiara answered. She wasn't even doubting what to do, she knew they had to go.

"Or she."
Isla corrected, receiving blank stares.
"What? It could be a woman!"

"Oh shit, then we're going to Charleston."
JJ stated, finally understanding the situation they were in.

"I gotta tell my mom."
Kiara sighed, knowing her parents were gonna get pissed off.
"Look, if we get it in time, we're not giving it to Shoupe."

"Well yeah obviously."
Isla scoffed, if it was on her, they'd never call the police ever again.

"Shit."
Pope cursed while he was looking at something on one of the computers.

"What?"
Kiara asked, turning her attention to him.

"I'm not sure, but I think whoever this Limbrey person is, they might be related to the captain of the royal merchant."
