♡ 21 | The Bad News

"I'm glad my parents and yours are friends. Otherwise we wouldn't have met each other." You whisper this as you reach out to hold Cedric's hand again. You give Cedric's hand a gentle squeeze when you look into his bright grey eyes. There's a flicker in Cedric's eyes when you look into them. The corner of his lips curl into a smile as he gives a silent nod. 

You watch his Adams apple bob against his throat. His eyes wish to say something and you keep silent. Cedric's eyes are darting all over your face. "I'm positive I would've found a way to meet you myself if it wasn't with the help of our parents." Cedric wears a lopsided smile. 

You scoff and your heart skips in response to Cedric's sweet words. "Something tells me to doubt you Ced. A charming boy like yourself is surrounded by beauty every day. I would just be another flower in your garden." You break eye contact to stare at his hand in yours. 

Cedric shifts in his seat to lean across the table. You feel his right hand cup the left side of your face. Cedric raises your face up slightly so your eyes are on him again. "You underestimate yourself at times Y/N. There's always one flower that stands out against the rest in a garden. I believe I will be the flower in your garden. Like a sunflower, I'll always look for the sun."

There's a silly smile that begins to grow on your face from Cedric's statement. He makes you feel ridiculously happy like a child who walked into Honeydukes for the first time. "You always know how to make me feel incredibly happy Cedric Diggory." Your hand rests on top of Cedric's that's on your face. There's a glow in your eyes when you look at the dark haired boy. 

"Good. That's what I aim to do consistently my love." Cedric speaks in a low whisper with a delicate smile against his strong jawline. The two of you look at one another with so much love and happiness. The remainder of the date goes on like this with conversation and tea.

You walk hand in hand with Cedric feeling much better than you have since finding out your parents have gone missing. The weather is perfect and the sky is absolutely beautiful as it changes into shades of pink, orange, and yellow during the golden hour. Your date with Cedric is one you'll remember most. A simple outing to Hogsmeade and pleasant conversation. You begin to walk back towards Hogwarts but Cedric stops you with a gentle tug. 

Turning your head slightly, you look up at the Hufflepuff boy. He tilts his head to the side with a smile. "Can we watch the sun set at the Black Lake before heading back?" You can't deny Cedric's request. The more time you can be with Cedric is always something you look forward to. Especially with how things will take a turn in a few weeks time. "Okay." You answer Cedric with a smile. 

The boy then takes the lead as he steers you both towards the Black Lake. You notice his smile falling and a more serious look replacing his face instead. There's clearly something bothering Cedric but you never know when to ask him during your whole day together. Maybe you can ask him while you're watching the sunset together. You stroke your thumb against the back of Cedric's hand as you both travel in silence. 

Words are not needed most of the time between you two. You two have a mutual understanding of one another that most are unable to share. That's just another reason why you love Cedric. You're still in amazement how you're able to love and be loved again. The thought of Cedric being your soulmate crosses your mind several times since the start of your relationship. Everything between you two just fell into the right place. Like a jigsaw puzzle finally being complete after having lost the one piece for some time.

The Black Lake has become your new Astronomy Tower. You bend over to grab a flat stone, tossing it across the water, and watching it skip three times before it sinks. Cedric does the same when he looks for his own rock. With how chaotic life can be, you forget to just take it easy at times. Cedric's taught you this valuable lesson.
