Chapter VI. Neutrality over decisions

————————⇅——⇅————————

He says nothing, but just shakes his head in response of agreement, expression looking solemn.

"I mean..." I hesitated on my answer, considering the consequences on what my decision would do. Saying yes would make me turn traitor against the Blue rebellion, whilst saying no would somewhat make Red Leader lose trust in me altogether probably or something worse. "I'll think about it."

"Alright," he put his hand on my shoulder as I turned my head towards him. "Well, you've got a day to make up your decision. If you need something, ask one of the cell workers to come & get me."

"And what if they don't want to respond? What if they don't believe the words that came from my mouth that originally came from yours?"

"I'll be watching the CCTV for any negligence on your end. If they don't comply, then I'll threaten them harshly."

"Ok then..." I slurred the first word, my mind racing on what he just said, imagining scenarios & shit.

I walked back to the cell block with Paul & Patryck behind me. I started to mutter a section of a song that they could somewhat hear.

"Oh, we got to turn up the crazy." I softly sang, my head playing the beat of the music. "Livin' like a washed up celebrity. Shootin' fireworks like it's the 4th of July, until we feel alright!"

"You have a great singing voice, Y/n." Patryck complimented, while Paul somewhat rolled his eyes.

"Not as great as me." Paul exclaimed.

"Yeah sure, probably sound like Obama on crack."

"🤣🤣🤣"

"Excuse me? I thought I heard a voice crack when you sang." He puffs out cigarette smoke from his mouth.

"I think you need hearing aids. Du begynner å bli gammel!"(You're growing old!)

"And you need some voice lessons, geez!"

"Now I know you ain't talkin' 'Eyebrows!'"

"What's with you & insultin' my eyebrows?"

"Nothing, now lemme sing! You've interrupted my song!"

"Yeah yeah, whatever."

"Stop getting an attitude with me!"

"The fuck did I do? —"

Me & Paul kept arguing, Patryck listening intently in on the argument, not bothering to stop us whatsoever. My Bipolar disorder might've kicked in midway into the argument, because I started to lash out, to somewhat sobbing, & to a sorta happy expression. After we've made it to my cell block, my eyes started to wear down & I rubbed my hands over them, doing it too much to the point of irritation. I've entered my cell & faced towards the door that shut behind me, then I went to the bars of the cell & leaned on them, talking to the two soldiers.

"You're a hassle, Y/n." Paul complained, lighting another cigarette.

"No, you're a hassle, 'Eyebrows'" I retorted back, still irritated from the argument, hitting the metal in front of me.

"Pat, you deal with her."

"What!? Why me?" He complained with a bit of whining in his voice.

"Just 'cause."

"No, leave him out of it! He done nothing of the sort."

"Whatever, I'm leavin', she's making me tired."

"Yeah, LEAVE!"

"I am!" He walks away from the cell, leaving me & Patryck standing there, with many other prisoners in the cells in front & beside me.

"Well, I'll just...get going." He said awkwardly. "See ya." I waved him goodbye.

I sit on the floor of the white room, with a new CCTV camera added to my room.

"Great, more invasion of my privacy," I complained in my head. I've suddenly remembered what Red Leader said to me that I have only a day to make a decision on his offer. "Gosh damn why did this have to be difficult?"

"Like why? I can't say no, but at the same time, I can't say yes!" I gripped my hair & pulled it out of aggravation. "Do I want to go traitor? Do I want to work for the red army? Or do I wanna stay loyal to the rebellion? Wait... speaking of the rebellion, how is my dad doing? He must be worried about me..."

I kept questioning myself & building scenarios for a while, until Autumn called my name, which snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Hey, Y/n," she whispered loudly.

"Yes?" I whispered back, fixing my hair into a ponytail.

"So what happened while you were gone?" She questioned, her tone hinting a bit of interest. "What did you do?"

"Well, I was with Red Leader with weapon classes. Nothin' more, nothin' less."

"What did he say?"

"It depends on what you're talkin' —"

"Girl, you know what I'm takin' 'bout!" Her tone rose a bit.

"Ok, ok," I said, feeling a bit irritated. "He offered me a rank as one of the top sharpshooters in the army. There! Happy!?"

"Yes & no. What did you say to him?"

"I said 'I'll think about it.'"

"Boring." She complained, possibly rolled her eyes. "I would've said yes."

"You have to take in the consideration of what consequences it would bring."

"Yeah, true."

"I want to chose neutrality over decision-making but in this case, it isn't an option to stay neutral."

"Try saying yes. Maybe the result would be different than you'd predicted."

"Maybe..."

We've kept talking until I finally made a decision. I've asked one of the guards near our cell to call Red Leader to the cell block. At first they didn't believe me that he gave her that authority — like I expected — & I told them that he's watching surveillance & that he's going to make hell amongst them if they don't comply with my requests. One of them didn't want to chance it & called him over. Forty-five minutes later, he's at the cell block where me & Autumn were.

"So, har du bestemt, ennå?" (made up your mind, yet?) He spoke to me in Norwegian.

"What did he say?" Autumn whispered to me.

"'Made up your mind, yet.'" I translated to her, before answering Red Leader. "Ja, det har jeg. Mitt svar på tilbudet ditt er ja. Hva må jeg gjøre?" (Yes, I have. My answer to your offer is yes. What do I need to do?)

He unlocks the door by pinning the keypad on the sidewall, & makes a gesture to follow him, before saying "follow me."

"What in the hell just happened?"
