belly woke up and went downstairs to where her mom was making breakfast, meanwhile her sister and dad sat on the kitchen table

"morning" belly mumbles

"morning honey" her mom, florence, says

"good morning isabel" her dad, daniel, says "your mom and i have something to ask you"

"oh, yeah?" belly asks, sitting down on the kitchen table

"so i was cleaning your room yesterday and found a lighter" florence says

"oh" belly says "uhm, so?"

"do you smoke?" daniel asks

macie snorts as bellys mouth drops

"belly? smoke? dad that girl probably has the clearest lungs ever" macie laughs

"i could smoke if i wanted to macie" belly scoffs "and no, i have that lighter in my room to light my candles" she lies

'liar, you use it to light yourself on fire' she thinks to herself

"oh" florence says "okay"

"im gonna go out for a while" belly says, putting her shoes on from the show rack

"where are you going?" daniel asks

"im gonna go smoke, love you guys!" belly smiles, grabbing her jacket

belly had a place where she could focus on herself, no one else

she went to her driveway and opened her car, grabbing her journal and pen and then closing the car door again

she put her headphones on and put taylor swift on, walking to her spot

she had found this place when she was thirteen, and never forgot it

she went there when she was feeling like it, or whenever she was stressed or needed quiet

once she got there, she saw a brunette haired boy, she couldnt see his face, only the back of him

"uh, hi" belly says

the boy turned around, and belly immediately recognized him

matt.

"oh, hey" matt smiles gently "were you following me or something?"

"uh no actually, ive been coming here since i was thirteen" she sits down in front of him

"do you want me to leave?" he asks

"no, its fine" she says "what are you doing here?"

"i dont know, i was just walking and found this place" he shrugs

"well thats fun" she chuckles "no i gome here to hide from everyone"

"oh thats so much fun" he answers "hey, call me crazy but your friends dont seem to like you very much"

"oh" she looks down "no they like me, they do, i think. they just find it funny to treat me the way they do, and i do too"

"them making fun of your social anxiety is wrong though" he scoffs "did they even apologize?"

"no, they didnt. but its okay!" she exclaims "at least macie defended me, something she doesnt do very often"

"but when i told them about my anxiety, they were comforting" matt says

"thats because youre a boy, and because youre not me" belly answers "ive always been the, outcast and the therapist friend, but ive never had a therapist friend, ever. like, not once has someone checked on me"

"i can be your therapist friend" he suggests

"thats a very sweet offer, matt, but i cant entirely trust you. ive only known you for a day" she reassures

"yeah well im just saying" he shrugs "so tell me about yourself"

"theres not much to know about me" she answers

"im sure thats not true" he says

"well uh. i can crochet and sew, i can cook, uh, i dont know what else" she looks down

"okay well while you think, ill tell you about me. my brothers and i make youtube videos, i like dogs, i love fettuccine alfredo, im the middle triplet, i have an older brother named justin, my birthday is august first, and yeah" he rants

"hey youre only a day older than me!" she exclaims

"really?" matt asks "thats so cool!"

"yeah!" belly says

after they both talked and laughed about random shit for the next two hours, belly got a call from her mom telling her to get home.

"hey do you want me to take you? i have my car" matt stands up

"no" belly says "hey, dont tell the others about this, they'll tease me for the rest of my existence"

"oh, yeah thats fine. ill see you at school tomorrow?" he asks

"uh no not tomorrow, im sneaking out and going to the beach tomorrow" she answers

"oh okay so youre sneaking out?" he chuckles

"okay not sneaking out, my parents let me, but they didnt let macie because shes failing math" belly smiles "feel free to come with"

"ill think about it" he smiles "give me your instagram though"

"just search up 'bellydavis' and itll appear" she answers "oh and im staying there for three days just so you know"

"okay, ill dm you?" he asks

"yeah" she answers "oh and, this can be our spot, just dont tell anyone about it"

"i wont, bye izzy" matt smiles

"bye matt" belly smiles back

did belly have a good time with matt? yes, did she hope he would say yes on going with her? maybe.
