NEVER DO THIS.

I won't be mentioning the username or book. I only do this for the sole purpose of warning everyone what they shouldn't be doing to reviewers including me.

Weeks ago, I reviewed a book and published it here. I know, a hundred percent, I never said anything nasty and insulting about the work. I made sure to be honest, and at the same time, polite. Again, if you read my rules, it says there that the review must not be taken personally since I exert effort and spare time to read and write the review. Now, I had to be real. I said that the book could use improvements. I even said "thank you for trusting me" as I always do.

However, prior to that, I came across racial slurs, which apparently bothered me. I stated in my review that using those innuendos is a mode of discrimination and I'm definitely not in favor of them.

Since it was a fanfiction, the author told me that the slurs were stated in the movie.

But still, I cared about the context. Not everyone has watched the movie and not everyone was a fan of it, which means that the author would have to adjust to the understanding of the readers. I haven't watched the movie myself. If anyone else would come across the terms, they'd really be judging the content and labeling it as racist, just as I did.

So, I told the author how much the context mattered. I got no reply. As in, none. No "thank you" at the very least. I unpublished it since I didn't want to cultivate racism. I posted on my message board how I won't tolerate racism, and I assume the author didn't see it. This was because it was only last night when I was messaged that I was being rude, I made the writer lose the spark, and I also put the writer down.

What?

The audacity to call me rude is just unbelievable. It's my job to write a review and give insights on how an author can improve, and all I get in return are messages like that. I read all five chapters, took down notes, and wrote. I appreciate the trust, but definitely not the disrespect.

Ask other authors whose books I reviewed. I have never said anything unpleasant to any of them, and I'm more than glad to have helped them. I did my best to give a review. So I tell you, don't blame me. That's no longer my problem and I know in my heart that my intention was never to put anyone down.

I'm addressing this issue not because I want to bully anyone or be mean. All I'm saying is...be grateful and respectful to your reviewers. Don't create animosity on the platform just because you didn't like input. Don't privately message them and attack them because that's not okay.

That's all, thank you for reading.
