♡ 04 | Silly Love Potion

You nod your head along to Mr. Diggory's words. Your parents both work in the Department of Mysteries. A section of the Ministry of Magic that carried out confidential research. Your parents hardly tell you much about their work but it's to be expected. The same can be said with what they've told the press in the article Mr. Diggory is reading. You only wish for them to watch after one another because of how dangerous their jobs can be. "They didn't forget to wish me a wonderful Christmas." 

A smile laces your face when you tell the Diggory's about the package you received via owl earlier this morning. Your parents were captivated by a pair of pearl earrings and a book they figured you would enjoy reading during their travels. You kept their gifts safely away in your suitcase. 

Talk about your parents become the conversation as you take a bite of the pancakes. It's no surprise how delicious they are. Cedric is nothing short of perfect in whatever he does. While his parents talk amongst each other, you look over to Cedric with a smile. "Did you use a bit of vanilla in the batter?" 

Cedric nods his head as he swallows the piece that he chews. "I did. Glad you noticed. Tastes better, doesn't it?" You take another bite as your answer. He chuckles beside you as the two of you eat in comfortable silence. Not shortly after breakfast does the family crowd into the living room. 

The Diggory's sit in their loveseat as you and Cedric sit on the floor by the beautifully decorated Christmas tree. You pass gifts over to Mrs. and Mr. Diggory to open. The presents being from your parents, yourself, and Cedric. Mrs. Diggory and Mr. Diggory must've exchanged gifts to one another last night. You couldn't find any presents from them for each other as you find your own presents under the tree. 

Usually you would be excited to open gifts but in the back of your mind you're still depressed. You much rather watch everyone open their own gifts. Thoughts of wondering if Draco is opening his gifts yet creep in your mind. Or if he's even celebrating today at all. His parents wouldn't forget to get him gifts, right? You've only really gone to the Malfoy Manor once during your Fourth Year. 

Never again have you gone back since the atmosphere felt too uncomfortable. You definitely felt like an outsider under their watchful eyes. Lost in your own thoughts, you hardly hear the o's and ah's from the Diggory's when they open their gifts on the loveseat. One present after the next that Cedric opens pertains his love for Quidditch. You then spot a rather large present. 

"What's this?" Cedric raises a brow. He's careful to place the torn wrapping paper away off to the side. "Oh! I forgot!" The words slip from your mouth when a memory slaps you in the face. Cedric places the large present on his lap as he tears the wrapping paper in a hurry. 

He holds his breath when he then lifts the lid open. Mr. Diggory and Mrs. Diggory silently watch with just as much anticipation. Cedric's hands tremble when he reads the card. Not looking twice at the content inside the box does he pull you into a hug. You squeal as you're careful not to press your weight against the present. 

"You're spoiling me Y/N!" Cedric lets you go as you feel the heat in your face form. His eyes sparkle like a child celebrating their first Christmas. "What is it?" Mrs. Diggory breaks the silence from where she sits. Cedric carefully pulls out what lays in the box.

"A Firebolt!" Mr. Diggory's eyes widen as his jaw drops. "Those are terribly expensive! How did you manage to get your hands on one Y/N? Mrs. Diggory and I couldn't even get one." Mr. Diggory eyes you with amazement. 

Cedric takes in every little detail on the broomstick as you sit there with a wide smile. "With the help of my parents. I, of course, wouldn't be able to afford it. I may have mentioned it a few times to them how Cedric is a wonderful friend of mine. That he's worked hard over the years and deserves nothing but the best as being the captain of the Quidditch team for Hufflepuff." You feel a sense of warmth in your chest when Cedric smiles from ear to ear.
