Aadi's Jaanu

PART 3

"Ennanga sollringa? Unmaiyava? Shobi'ku engagement ah?" ("What really? Is it our Shobi's engagement?") Savitri asked in amazment coming out of kitchen wiping her hands in a towel.

"Aama. Do you know who called me today? Kathir." Ragu shared happily. After all, why not his best friend has called him after years. 

"Really? Anna called you? He called you to invite us for Shobi's function? Really? Oh my god! I'm so happy!" Savitri couldn't just contain her happiness at all.

"Maa, ennachu? Madam romba happy' ah irrukinga pola?" ("Maa, what's the matter? Madam looks so happy today?") Jaanu asked entering her house. She went to fetch groceries and vegetables and was confused to see her mother so happy all of a sudden.

"Jaanu..you know Shobi's is getting married soon. Kathir called me today to invite us for the engagement. Oh god, I can't believe it's already so long. It feels like now only we saw you as toddlers, but look she's going to be married in a month or two." Ragu said in a cheerful which made Jaanu's eyes widen in surprise and her lips broke out in a beautiful smile.

"Really, Shobi? You mean my cutie pie?  Is getting married?" Janani uttered every single word gasping in disbelief.

"Yes, Jaanu. Shobi is!"Her mother confirmed smiling wholeheartedly.

"Wohoo! Yayy! Jolly! Yaay!" she hooted happily and hugged her sister in law who just entered the hall.

"Woah, calm down my little thunderstorm. Tell me what happend? Did you finally get any charming hero for yourself or what?" Swetha asked teasingly as Jaanu slowly came down from her high.

"No Anni, not me! But my twin got one!" she quizzed laughing happily.

"Twin? But? You don't have one? You have Kowshik.. but he's already my husband! Then who else?"Swetha asked scratching her head in confusion. She really didn't understand her riddle.

"Oh my poor Anni. I do have a twin. Aww! I thought you were aware!" Now Janani was pulling her legs intentionally enjoying her sister in law's confused state.

"What?" Swetha looked to her in laws who were simply enjoying their banter without interfering.

"What is she saying?" she asked her mother in law, feeling completely clueless.

"Oh my swethu, We thought you know. No worries, ask your husband. He'll tell you." Savitri giggled playing along with her daughter.

"No, I can't keep calm for so long. Tell me Athai!" Swetha demanded whining like a kid.

"No worries da, it's already 2:30, he'll come back by 6:00 ask him then." Ragu joined his wife in the act. Though they felt sorry for hiding such a good news from her, a little teasing wouldn't hurt.

"Mama!! You're supposed to be on my side now. Tell me what's going on. I can't handle surprises." Swetha complained to him.

"Aww, my cute Anni. No wonder Anna is so whipped for you. Your cheeks turn pink when your angry, how cute is it? Aww!" with that Jaanu pulls her cheeks fondly.

"Ouch, Jaanu. Don't pull, you know right! It hurts." Swetha says rubbing her cheeks to soothe the pain.

"Of course, they hurt but it doesn't when Anna pulls them right?" she teases her sister in law. Who blushes for a second, before chasing her to get back at her.

"You! Stop!" with that Swetha starts chasing Janani, who in turn escapes from her.

-At Night-

Kowshik enters his home, tiredly loosing his tie and settles on the sofa, as he enters.

"Shik, Shik do you have another sibling whom I don't know?" Swetha asks as soon as she sees him,tapping his shoulders impatiently sitting beside him.

"What? Swetha.. first get me something to drink?" he asks tiredly.

"NO, answer first, coffee next." she says crossing her arms.

"Anna, here you go. Water!" Janani settles down beside the couple enjoying their conversation.

"Haa.. thank you my life saver." Kowshik says dramatically gulping down the glass of water

"Ok, listen, you got your water, now answer me. Do you have another sibling?" Swetha asks like a curious kid, snatching away the glass from him.

"Anna, my twin is getting married. They've invited us for her engagement." Jaanu fills him with the information. Even Kowshik seemed pretty confused at the start, but as soon as realization sinks in, he gasps in disbelief.

"Oh so it's a her. You have another sister? How come I didn't know her?" Swetha asked yet again, feeling impatient.

"Aww, my curious cat! Give me a moment." Kowshik says slightly annoyed.

"WHO IS SHE?" Swetha asks going extremely close to his face.

"I..I'll tell, but please go back a little. I don't wanna die so soon." he chuckles pushing her a little away.

"They're talking about Anusha, our cousin. You know her pretty well right?" he asks in confusion.

It was then the realization dawn upon her. She felt so stupid for not realizing it soon enough. She does pretty well know their cousins and what they mean to them, especially Janani.

"What? Really Shobi is getting married?Oh wow! That's awesome." Swetha chirped happily.

"Yes, my tubelight Anni" Jaanu replies teasing her.

"I'm not a tubelight." she complains and turns away.

"Yes Jaanu, she's not." Swetha looks at him surprise looking at him supporting her and feels proud for a moment, but then hearing his next sentence gives him a hard smack as a gift.

"She's a bettermas lamp." he concludes and receives his reward from his beloved wife.

"Ow! Valikuthu di!" ("Ow! It pains woman!")

"Nalla Valikattum. Uhm!" (Let it pain, Nicely!)

Janani has a hearty laugh loving their cute little banters. She wishes for such a lovely life with her Aadi Maama someday.
