"Why didn't Mario come for me?" Y/N finally voiced her thoughts aloud, her voice tinged with sadness and confusion.
Waluigi regarded her with a mix of empathy and skepticism. "Are you really surprised?" he replied, his tone tinged with a hint of bitterness. "I believe it was clear after he refused to wear your necklace."
Y/N's brow furrowed as she remembered about the situation. Waluigi didn't forget about it? Because well, Mario already did. She asked him a while back and he didn't even know what she was talking about at first. But again, he was just very tired after all the races. It's not his fault. She's sure the necklace thing wasn't even his intention, he did not intend to hurt her.
"Yes, I indeed am surprised," she murmured softly. "He wouldn't do this for no reason. You don't know my boyfriend like I do, Waluigi. He isn't like this—no, I know him."
"And how exactly are you sure?" Waluigi challenged gently, though doubt flickered in his eyes.
Y/N paused, lost in memories of moments spent with Mario. "He treats me well," she began, her voice trailing off as if she was trying to convince herself. "He makes sure I'm alright, he spends time with me. He loves me."
"He already failed at the first two things," he remarked bluntly. "I would reconsider your choice of words, Y/N."
"You just don't know him," Y/N insisted, her voice tinged with hope.
"Maybe."
Encouraged by a spark of optimism, Y/N turned to Waluigi with hope in her eye. "You have to meet him. You'll understand that he truly isn't how you portray him!"
Her enthusiasm faltered suddenly as she remembered the hate directed towards Waluigi from others. "Oh wait... I forgot, he—" she muttered, leaning back against the wall absentmindedly. "Waluigi, Mario hates you. Yeah, about that, Why exactly is h-" Y/N suddenly felt the wall disappear behind her and she wasn't prepared for it. She reached her hand out to grab into something, anything—but it was too late.
The wall fell back, taking her with it, making her land on the floor with a startled cry and hit her head slightly.
Looking through the stone dust, there was a hidden passageway that revealed before them—an unexpected escape route.
Waluigi stared in astonishment at the revealed passage, momentarily speechless. "Ohhh, yeah, I forgot it does that..." he murmured, a mix of surprise and familiarity crossing his features.
Rubbing her head in pain, Y/N shot Waluigi an incredulous look. "You 'forgot'?!" she exclaimed.
They cautiously stepped into the newly revealed passage, their eyes adjusting to the dim light as they walked deeper into it. The air was thick with the scent of damp stone, but they pressed on, driven by the hope of escape.
"Is your head alright?" Waluigi asked as he turned his head back at her.
Y/N met gazes with him and nodded, though she felt that her head did still hurt just a bit.
As they navigated the winding corridors, Y/N couldn't help but feel cautious around Waluigi. She remembered that she can't just blindly trust and follow Waluigi, all while Mario and the others always talked so much shit about him.
No matter how nice and welcoming he might seem, it is all a lie, a trick.
At least, that's what they say.
Y/N's head told her to listen, but her heart refuses to believe it.
With each step, their surroundings grew increasingly unfamiliar, the oppressive darkness broken only by the occasional flicker of torchlight lining the walls. But they pressed on, guided by a determination to leave Bowser's cave behind them once and for all.
Y/N followed closely behind, her heart pounding.
"Are you sure this is the right way?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
