A/N: An update almost exactly a year later...☠️ I'm so sorry. To make up for it, this one's a bit longer though! ;D
"I spy..."
Y/N's voice echoed in the uneven, grey walls. Her back was against the metal bars of the cell.
The air was cool, carrying with it the faint scent of stone. From a distant corner, water dripped rhythmically, soft droplets echoing in the silence.
"...something that is grey."
Waluigi shifted in his seat on the floor right at the bed, the soft shuffle of his clothes filling the quiet space.
"It's the beton floor again, isn't it?"
"Fuck."
"Listen, Y/N, it's not even funny anymore. Let's get out before we lose our minds," Waluigi voiced.
The metal bars of the cell creaked as Y/N leaned back against them in frustration.
"Oh, that's so smart, Waluigi! How haven't we thought of this sooner? It's not like it's because we have no fucking idea how to!"
Sounds of torches flickering, their dancing shadows and dangling rusty chains from the walls seemed to mock their captivity. Y/N eyed them, wondering why Bowser didn't think of capturing them in those. Maybe because he knew that they wouldn't succeed in escaping. They're too reckless, clearly at odds.
"So your solution is waiting and staring at walls?" Waluigi mocked.
Y/N ignored his comment, her eyes stayed on the hanging chains and she continued:
"I spy something that is grey."
Waluigi sighed as he looked at Y/N and saw how little she cared. He understood that it's not her fault she's acting like this, considering the circumstances they were in, but he also understood that their fate now lies in his hands.
"Beton floor."
A grin crept on her lips and she let out a laugh.
"Ha! Gotcha this time! It's the Beton ceiling."
Her gaze wandered back down on Waluigi, who did not look very amused.
"Not funny," Waluigi voiced his displeasure.
Y/N sighed and crossed her arms, her gaze drifting away from Waluigi as she muttered, "I thought you were supposed to be the funny and silly one that supports all my jokes!"
Waluigi shook his head. "Sad world we live in," he replied dryly. "I will support all your ideas regarding our potential escape though."
A hint of sadness appeared on Y/N's expression. "I wish I had something," she admitted, her voice tinged with disappointment. "If only Mario had shown up like he was supposed to..."
Waluigi raised an eyebrow ironically. "Mario, huh? Sounds like quite the hero."
"Well, he is usually the type to get me out of messes like this," Y/N defended. Though she realized how unconvincing this makes her statement, considering Mario is nowhere to be seen.
Waluigi regarded her skeptically. "Is he really?" he mused, not entirely convinced. "Well, lucky for you now, you've got me," he added with a proud smile. "And let me tell you, I've had quite a few run-ins with Bowser. I know a thing or two about getting out of tight spots."
Despite the circumstances, Y/N couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope at Waluigi's confidence. She glanced around the dimly lit cell, her eyes searching for any possible means of escape. The distant echoes of the cave's silence enveloped them, a constant reminder of their isolated selfs.
Waluigi leaned back against the bed frame, his eyes meeting the ceiling.
There fell a heavy silence between them, broken only by the faint drip of water echoing. Y/N's expression grew sad, her thoughts drifted to memories of Mario and her and she drowned in them. The dates, the gifts, the kisses.
She wondered if Mario just didn't know she is captured. But again, she visits him everyday, concerns must be raised regarding her by now.
The weight of disappointment settled upon her shoulders like a heavy blanket, and she felt her chest ache. She was just so confused, she wanted to understand him, but she couldn't.
