Anxiousness and excitement brewed inside me as I got closer to my destination. The gloomy weather outside of the ride seemed to only boost the feeling.

Shifting around impatiently, I couldn't help but grab the device next to me, scrolling through social media to at least distract myself for a little while.

The car stopped and my chauffeur opened the passenger door, letting me out.

The building in front of me was far more grand and beautiful than I could have imagined. Photos don't do it justice. I couldn't help but smile to myself.

Realizing what was next on the agenda I turned and asked the man who had driven me to my destination. "Hey, uhm, do you know where Principal Weems' office is?"

After finding out the directions, I swiftly made my way to her office. My knuckles came into contact with the cold wooden door.

An invitation to enter was heard through the door and I walked into the spacious room. Upon entering, I could not help but admire every detail. Interrupted from my thoughts, I heard a woman behind a desk speak.

"Young (y/l/n), the Academy and I have been awaiting your arrival."

That must be Principal Weems, a beautiful woman with elegant clothes to match. I didn't know much about her, but from what I was told by my family, she seemed very prestigious.

"Principal Weems, so sorry I'm late, it's silly but I got lost at the train station," it was embarrassing to admit but it was true. I mean, being forty-seven minutes late is not ideal. Along with going into the wrong bathroom and the complete opposite direction.

But we don't talk about that.

A soft chuckle could be heard from her as she gestured towards an open seat in front of her. "You're fine, Young (y/l/n), I hope you had safe travels from your hometown."

I just nodded in response after taking a seat, letting her take the lead of this conversation. "I am assuming you know as to why your family has asked for you to be transferred here?"

"Yes ma'am, I do, thank you for accepting me so late into the semester."

Nevermore Academy didn't accept new students mid-term, but this was an exception Principal Weems had to accept. Afterall, my family and her have been friends for many years, it only seemed right. I couldn't help but thank her again.

"That reminds me, you'll be staying in a dormitory with one of the students here," Principle Weems added.

This made me a bit confused, "sorry if I'm interrupting, but aren't all the dorms occupied?" Principal Weems hummed in response, "due to recent events one of our students had to be sent home. Nothing bad! Just family matters."

I wasn't going to press and decided to accept the answer. Soon enough we found ourselves making our way to my new found room.

After knocking on the door and entering, Principal Weems introduced me to my new roommate. "Young (y/l/n), this will be your dorm mate, Devyn Merrick."

I looked around the room in awe, seeing that my luggage was already here. Glad I got that shipped ahead of time. I then looked at Devyn smiling, "hi, it's nice to meet you."

Devyn looked up from the book they were reading on their bed, "hey, (y/f/n), right? Glad to finally meet you! Principal Weems told me to expect you." All I could think about was how I already like them. Good vibes.

"Young Merrick will show you around the Academy's grounds along with getting your uniform." Principal Weems gave a kind smile to Devyn, "I trust you'll be able to show Young (y/l/n) around?" With that Devyn closed their book and sat up, "yes ma'am!"

After we shared a smile with our Principal who swiftly left, we looked back over to each other, not sure of what to do. "Uh... I love your box braids, seriously!" Devyn couldn't help but smile to themself, "haha thanks! I did them myself."

I began to think to myself about what having a roommate would be like until Devyn interrupted my thoughts."By the way, I already got your uniform- and if you need it personally fitted I have a sewing machine right here."

They nodded towards their desk that held many knicknacks along with notebooks and the prized sewing machine. I couldn't help but smile to myself.

"Oh! Also grabbed your schedule for you, I think we have a few classes together. I left it on your nightstand, hope it's okay that I looked at it."

To put it simply, I was baffled. Laughing to myself and getting excited I looked back at Devyn, "oh I am so going to love being your roommate."

Walking over to my side of the room looking over my items, I couldn't help but thank Devyn again. It was really kind of them to prepare me for the new school.

Maybe, just maybe, I'll like it here.
