America's POV

I follow Russia through the schoolyard. Even if we are in middle school, we still have recess. It's bizarre.

Russia grabs on to her own arms, hugging herself. I come up next to her.

"WHY SHOULD I LOVE ANYONE IF NO ONE LOVES ME?!" She screams. I wince, then hug her.

"My d-dad. He makes us do everything. Cook. Clean. TAKE OFF HIS SHOES! AND WITH NO ALLOWANCE!" She sobs.

I can't tell you how many times I wished I was in her place. How many times I wished that she had a better family. How I wish I could take her place in her household. But I would never give her my family, because, even if my family's not as broken, you don't want to be in there when my sister starts screaming.

I huddled in my bed, reading Shadow And Bone. I ignore the screaming in the kitchen.

I read about Alina. The Darkling. Mal. The Sun Summoner.

I sometime go to sleep.
