CHRISTINE
"Christine! Come on! We are going to be late! I want to be the first person to see the list!" Silence and then a hysterical, "CHRISTINE!"
I giggled, rolling my eyes as I opened my door, watching as Meg held up her fist to bang on my door again.
"Finally!" She exclaimed as she grabbed both of my arms and drug me down the stairs.
"Meg! It's so early in the morning! I highly doubt the dogs on the street are even awake at this hour, let alone the Opera Managers." I pointed out, following with a laugh.
"Christine! I'm being serious! We have to be the first people there! If I'm not the first person to see that list, I might kill myself!" Meg screamed loudly with exaggeration as she pulled on her cloak.
I bursted out with laughter, as I tried to keep up with Meg's pace. "Alright, alright. Let's go and tell your mother that we are leaving so she won't worry."
Meg sighed, seeming to be frustrated that we weren't already out the door. I shook my head at her and we went to bid her mother farewell, rushing out the door with excitement.
I wrapped my arm around Megs and said, "Meg, I am so excited! I just know you are going to make it because your dance was impeccable! Everyone loved it!"
"Well I certainly hope so! I worked with Mama on that last part for a long time. I was scared that I was going to mess it up but I just let the dance flow right out of me and take control of my body." She closed her eyes and gestured dramatically. I giggled and shook my head. She continued, "Before I knew it, it was over and everyone was clapping! It was the strangest thing, but I hope to feel like that every time I dance. The crowd cheering, the feeling of pride rushing through me! Oh, it was amazing!"
I only shook my head and giggled. "Meg, you silly girl! Why are you so astounded that everyone liked your dance? Everytime you rehearsed, I told you you were amazing!"
"Christine, no offense, but you live with me! Sometimes when you tell me I'm great, I just felt like you were obligated to say it."
I halted us, and stepped in front of her. "Meg! That is definitely not true! You are an amazing dancer, and trust me, I would tell you if you weren't good enough. Just like I told you about that awful hairstyle you insisted on trying!"
Meg bursted into a fit of giggles and threw her arms around me, hugging me tightly. "Oh Christine, I know you are right! I guess I am just being silly." For a moment more, they stood like that, then Meg jerked away and grabbed my hand, grinning. "Come on. We have to hurry!"
We took off towards the Opera House and eventually slowed down the closer we approached. We were in the middle of a conversation about adding a garden this spring behind the house, when Megs gripped tightened and she let out a scream.
I cringed as she ripped out of my hand and rushed the rest of the way towards the Opera's front doors. I laughed and ran after her, and as I struggled to keep up with her, finally we reached the top. Meg ran straight to the note nailed to the front and screamed.
"I see my name! I see my name!"
I used the last of my energy to push forward, and pushed against Meg's back, looking towards the top of the list and.... There it was.
Christine Daae for Understudy of Juliet (chorus)
"Christine? What's wro-" Meg stopped and looked where my finger pointed and she let out a piercing scream and grabbed me by the shoulders shaking me. "OH MY GOD! CHRISTINE! Why didn't you tell me you auditioned?! I can't believe this! You and I made it!"
