"It's dying..." There was a family gathered around an old tree, leaves falling off its weak branches, the bark brittle and flaking off, not to mention the visible rot near the base.

"But why? Did we do something wrong?" A young boy, around the age of seven, asked looking up at the woman holding his hand.

"No, Daisuke, I highly doubt it. This tree has been here for many lifetimes now, maybe it's just too old." The woman reassured with a gentle thumb rub on the boy's hand, her other hand resting above her baby bump out of habit.

"We'll have to cut it down." A young man, barely in his twenties, spoke up with crossed arms.

"B-But mama just said it's been here for a very long time Haru, we can't just get rid of it!" Daisuke protested.

"Your brother is right, if we leave it and it rots, it could fall and hurt someone." And older man added, walking into the conversation giving the woman a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Plus, it's messy, kinda glad it'll be gone." Haru added in an annoyed tone.

"I liked the tree..." Daisuke muttered in a sad tone.

"It's a little odd with how sudden this came on, a sacred tree just suddenly wilting within days." A girl muttered, holding out a hand catching a rotted leaf that couldn't cling to it's host any longer.

"Sacred tree- you actually believe in that crap?" Haru asked rasing a brow.

"You believe in a nonexistent love life, don't you?" She asked in an irritated tone.

"Kaiya!" Her father snapped making her roll her eyes.

"It's fine when he does it though, huh?" She whispered under her breath, feeling her older brother's ego grow tenfold.

"Look, it's late, let's just go in and I'll call someone to come over take care of this in a couple days." Her mother spoke trying to distract the siblings from bickering any further.

"We'll have to wait until next month's check, it won't be cheap with how big it is."

"Maybe it'll get better by then?" Daisuke asked looking up at his mom. Haru rolled his eyes before walking into the home with a mocking laugh earning a harsh glare from Kaiya.

"Maybe it will, Dai-Dai." Kaiya said trying to make her little brother feel better. After that, the family went inside. They had a quick dinner that night, nothing too fancy, before separating to their own doings. Daisuke was coloring while watching TV with their father, Haru went to his room and immediately jumped on his game, and Kaiya went to her own room to read. That was until there was a gentle knock on her door before it was opened.

"You ok?" Her mother asked in a hushed voice.

"You didn't say a word at dinner." She added, explaining her concern.

"If I get punished for talking why should I?" Her mother let out a gentle sigh before walking over sitting on the edge of Kaiya's bed.

"Your father just didn't want a fight to start."

"My dad didn't like that I insulted his baby boy after he insulted me." Kaiya corrected bringing a sorrowful look in her mother's eyes.

"I'm sure he didn't mean it like that." She tried to reason with her daughter.

"It's all he ever does, so yes, he did. Haru is his favorite and will always be, idiot is already twenty-two and hasn't ever applied for a single job in his life because daddy says it's ok but he made me work the day I graduated highschool. I got yelled at because I got let go when the business closed and Haru was more than happy to mock me for it and never got yelled at once, not even by you." Kaiya then snapped her book shut startling her mother a little.

"So if you're going to just keep defending them, then leave, I don't wanna hear it." Kaiya added as she turned to lay on her side facing away from her mother. All the woman could do was silently watch her daughter for a moment, then leave, carefully closing the door behind her.

"Of course." Kaiya muttered before her phone went off. She turned over again to grab it.

Sleezebag: Oi need a drink grab me one.

Kaiya's brows furrowed in irritation as she messaged back:

Kaiya: No, you're an adult, do it yourself.

Sleezebag: Seriously??? What could you be doing more important I can't pause match.

Kaiya: Proper grammer for one.

Sleezebag: Fuck off.

Kaiya: Gladly.

As soon as the message was marked as read, there was a loud thud from the wall, knowing Haru, he threw something trying to scare her like when they were kids.

"What was that?!" Their father suddenly yelled. Kaiya rolled her eyes knowing Haru would blame her so she just stayed quiet.

"I asked Kaiya to get me something to drink and she got pissy for no reason!" There it was, just like she expected.

"You're an adult, do it yourself, and stop throwing crap at the wall before you break it!" She snapped back.

"Just do it Kaiya it's not that fucking hard!" Moments later, her phone went off again.

Sleezebag: 🖕

"Take care of your own kid." Kaiya huffed through gritted teeth, however, her door was suddenly opened.

"Keep acting like a spoiled brat, go ahead, just hope you have a plan b on where to go."

"The moment I can move out, I'm leaving. Sure there will be a party when I do." Kaiya countered as she plugged in her phone.

"I have tried so hard to teach you responsibility, how to survive, so you could have a good life."

"No, you just never wanted a daughter. You love your sons though, huh?"

"What?" Her father's brows furrowed at this comment.

"You heard me." Now, in frustration.

"Whatever, leave, go ahead." He shut the door loudly, not necessarily a slam, but there was still some force behind it.

"Whatever."
