Billy's and Hailey's dad even allowed them to skip school for this. Everyone had to pretend to be sick or just skip school and didn't tell their parents about it. When they got to the playground they saw John standing there waiting for them to come over. When they got by John everyone sat down and started talking about how they saw a red balloon outside of their bedrooms windows. They started thinking of ways to get rid of IT. John had finally realized how serious they took it and felt bad and also started to believe it because they were so scared and worried about IT coming. After a while of them talking he finally had the courage to speak up and tell them what he did and how it was all a prank.
Everyone was mad at him because some of them lied to their parents and some are going to get in trouble for skipping school. John tried to apologize but now listened to him and they didn't even want to talk to him again. For the next few days no one talked to John, they didn't want anything to do with him, they felt like they couldn't trust him anymore. They didn't want to hang around someone who jokes around about serious things. They saw him in school and wouldn' even say hey after a while John tried to talk to them but they just ignored him. John was walking home from school when he felt something touch his shoulder so he turned around and saw a clown with a red balloon in his hand. John tried to call them while running but no one answered. The clown caught him and grabbed him and asked if he wanted to play, then vanished into the woods with John. When everyone stopped seeing John around school they thought he stopped coming because they weren't talking to him.
The next week they went to his house and asked the parents if he could come out so they could talk. They told them that John had gone missing last week and they hadn't found him yet. They asked what day he went missing they told him it was on wednesday they noticed that was the day they kept getting spam calls from him. Billy and Hailey started to think about what happened to their dad's friend and his little brother and how the clown tricked his little brother and took him away. The next day they meet up at the park for a meeting about how John went missing. They didn't think it was a prank because it would be hard for him to get his parents to be a part of it and even if he actually ran away he would have nowhere to go. After the meeting they went to the library to make multiple missing posters and didn't want to make any accusations until they were sure about it. The plan was to make posters that said that they would give $10,000 to whoever found him and put Billy's dad's phone number up there. If he showed up they would pay the person but if he didn't they would prepare for the worst and get ready to fight this dancing clown.
They also told the police about what they thought might have happened to him but they did not believe what they said and joked about it so they left the police station with no help to fight this evil child eating clown. They worried more and more everyday they didn't get a call and got really scared. After a week went by and they still didn't find him they made a search party with a lot of people they knew. They were scared someone else might get taken while searching for John. They didn't know what else to do but look or prepare for the worst. The truth was no one wanted to fight this clown especially Billy's and Hailey's dad's. They talk about how this time they might not win and how they might be the ones dead this time.
Billy didn't know what to say he felt bad for dragging his other friends into or for even bringing it up. He just wanted to be a nightmare that he would soon wake up from and be happy again. He stood up and told everyone that they were smart and strong enough to do it. He was trying to cheer everyone up but deep down he was scared more than anyone. They decided to search again tomorrow from early in the morning to late at night.They were still scared but figured if they found John everything about the clown might be fake but no one knew for sure so they stayed on guard and didn't overlook anything.
They wanted to be extra careful because if John did get taken they didn't want to be next on the list. They went around asking the people that were helping look for John if they saw him yet. It was almost night time before they quit looking. They got in the car, sad and tired. In the distance they heard someone trying to say something so they got out of the car to see what it was. They heard someone say help then heard someone running through the woods. They grabbed flashlights and followed the noise. They kept going and going until they reached an old shed. It creeped them out but they still went in to see if he was in there or not. When they went in they started looking. They saw something covered with a blanket so Caleb pulled the blanket and a lot of spiders started running all over the place. When all the spiders were gone Billy's dad said that IT the dancing clown was back. They continued to look and found nothing. They thought it was the clown that was making the noise. Then they went outside and saw John's lifeless body.
