"Now ladies and gentlemen, look to the heavens as a flash of lightning unlike any other takes your breath away. Watch as our beloved Killua Zoldyck puts on a show."
Killua squints and blocks his eyes with a hand when the blue-ish white lights hit him with full force, but quickly fixes his unprofessional pose with changing his squint to a wink and quickly fixing a hand upon his hip, waving to the crowd with the hand he was shielding his eyes with. He sighs when he hears the high pitch squeals.
'It's just too easy sometimes.' Killua thinks.
Killua stretches his arms behind his back, letting his muscles bulge underneath his almost-too-tight-for-comfort outfit. 'That's right. I keep forgetting to ask Machi to fix that for me. Well it's fine for now, I guess.' He rolls his eyes because the squealing was becoming a little much. 'Well, I kind of asked for it.'
Killua takes breath as he sets one of his feet onto the trapeze bar while he grabs onto the rope on either side of the bar which extends to the ceiling. He pushes off the platform with his foot, gaining momentum and he starts pumping his legs, making his swing go higher and higher. All the while, the maintenance crew below works on moving the platform he was just standing on, so he can have room to work his magic.
Killua can hear music coming from somewhere, but he was too far gone to notice what song it was. He heard claps, sighs, cheers, and the occasional scream when his tricks looked a little too scary, but he knew he wouldn't fall. He never falls. He always memorizes his routines, and he practices so much that he knows how his body moves during every single trick. He won't fall. He can't fall.
And he doesn't. He ends his dance with another wink and a salute to the roaring audience. The lights move back to Satotz, the ringmaster, and Killua's bar is slowly lowered where he grabs a towel from a person and walks towards the tent holding all of the performers. As he enters the tent he's met by a familiar face.
"You did remarkable yet again brother. The people won't stop talking about your lightning show for weeks." Illumi says while handing his younger brother a water bottle.
"Thank you. You and Hisoka also did great." Killua says while taking the water bottle. He takes a drink while his brother continues talking.
"Hisoka had many close calls this time though. I have to punish him now, it's very bothersome." Illumi sighs.
Killua does a spit take while imagining what kind of "punishments" Illumi has in store for Hisoka. He starts coughing up a storm causing Illumi to go into a state of worry.
"Brother? Are you okay? Did something happen?" Illumi exclaims.
"N-no I'm fine. Um...just swallowed wrong." Killua blushes and realizes he won't be able to look his brother in the eyes for weeks. He still can't believe that Illumi has no idea that the whole circus staff knows what's going on between him and Hisoka.
"Are you positive? If it's a cold we need to know right away so we can get the understudy ready since we don't have a doctor in the staff at the moment." Illumi states.
"I'm fine. I promise. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go to my room. I'll see you later, okay?" Killua rushedly says, desperately trying to get away from this awkward situation.
"Oh! That reminds me, Father would like to speak to you before you go to bed tonight. I'm going to go find Hisoka now. Goodnight." Illumi says before smiling and taking his leave.
Killua breathes a breath of relief before realizing what his brother just said. 'Shit. If Father wants to talk to me, that means I did something wrong.' While groaning, Killua slowly walk to his Father's quarters. Ideas of why he's in trouble fly through his head, but none of them were too drastic. 'They're all things I've done before, so why did Dad choose now to get mad?'
Killua knocks on the door of his father's office and suddenly hears a low groan and a womanly shriek, followed by sudden and fast movement.
"Come in." Killua hears his father's low voice rumble. When Killua enters he sees his mother in the corner blushing and looking guilty.
"H-hello Killua dear. Your father and I were just having a talk about you." Killua's mother nervously says.
Killua look at his mother with an expression that says: You aren't fooling anyone.
"Kiyoko is right. We were just discussing your performance future. As you already know, you are biggest act in our circus, but that's started to change ever since Hisoka came along and teamed up with your brother." Silva says.
'Oh teaming up is what you call it now a days? So you were teaming up with mom huh?' At moments like these Killua really wishes he had a friend to laugh at his witty lines with.
"Your brother's act is slowly becoming as popular as yours, and in under a month it will surpass yours. Your mother and I want only the best for you so we've come up with a plan. You will also become a duet act, and we already have the perfect man for the job." Silva said with a smile.
Silva and Kiyoko started talking about the man who was to become partners with Killua, but their voices were a thousand miles away. Killua couldn't hear them over the loud alarms in his head. A partner!? Killua couldn't have that! Working with another person in such a dangerous job could mean death! It's hard enough doing a solo, but with a duet Killua had to worry about not only his own body but also the one that had the hands he was putting his life into. In a solo act Killua knew the formula, but with someone else there were too many variables to take account of. If Killua couldn't trust the man with his life, and vice versa, they were doomed.
"And look how handsome he is!" Kiyoko exclaimed suddenly, handing Killua a picture of the man.
Killua felt his face grow bright and his whole body get warm as he stared at the picture.
'Fuck.'
'He's hot.'
