Chapter Three: I'm On My Own

"So they still told you even after I..." She doesn't finish her sentence. I want to know that she didn't kiss Liam but I can't stand to see her scared. So I then say,

"No, they didn't tell me anything. I overheard them talking saying that they threatened you. But why did they threaten you?" I ask the question before I even thought about it. Why did they threaten her? What is she hiding?

"I... uh... I..." I can't stand to see her like this anymore. I smile and say,

"You know what it's fine. You don't have to tell me. Just know that nothing could make me leave you okay?" She nods and then smiles. She then hugs me. A real hug. It lasts for a long time. She then let's go and says,

"Thank you Miranda. I love you." I smile and say,

"I love you too."

I wake up to my alarm going off in my bedroom. I get up off the couch and go turn it off. I then realize I have to get ready for work. Actual work, not this game I've been playing. Even though I miss Sophia, I know there is nothing I can do to help her. I head off to work. When I get to Nudle I put on my uniform. As I'm putting more computers on display, I hear the door open. I look over at the door and see someone who just makes my blood boil. I walk over to them and say, "What in the world are you doing here?" They smile and say,

"I'm in the mood for some fun. And this was the best place to get it." I roll my eyes and then say, "Tell me where Sophia is, Charlotte!" She smirks and says,

"And why would I do that? I had so much fun watching you forget your precious Sophia. And she is going to be so sad when I tell her you are giving up on her." I stare intensely at her. All she's doing is telling me the truth.

"What makes you think I'm giving up on her?" I say. Charlotte laughs and says,

"Because Miranda, you aren't the same person you were when you were part of the POC. You don't have the same feelings you used to for Sophia. You don't even remember what she looks like. For all you know she could be in this room." I look around the room. Charlotte laughs and starts to walk away. After she walks out of the building, I go back to my desk and pull out the note I found yesterday. I haven't opened it yet. All I see is "Sophia" on the front. I grip the note even harder. I find myself outside now, furious. I then see a car parked out front. The car is really familiar, so I begin walking towards it. I see a note on the car. It says,

"Miranda, this was your company car. I may or may not have stolen it for you.- Liam or Agent L." I then look up at the car and pull out my phone. I open this app on my phone that I have never questioned, and press three buttons. The car unlocks, turns on and opens the door. I jump in and race back to my house. When I get home I look at the house to my left, I see a man standing on his front porch. He turns to me and says,

"Hey! What happened to the girl you were watching a long time ago?" I look at him and say, "That's what I'm trying to find out." He nods his head and says,

"Weren't you close, like two years ago? When you found out what gang the kidnappers were a part of?" I look at him in shock and say,

"Wait what gang were they a part of?" He thinks for a moment and then says the worst thing in the world,

"I remember you saying that you had to prove they were a part of Agent L's gang or something. And you said he betrayed you."

My jaw drops. Could Liam really be behind all this? "Wait Agent L?" I say to the man. "Yeah you said that no one would believe you and that's why you were leaving for a few days to investigate," he tells me.

"Where was I going?" I ask him.

"Hmm I think you were going to Elmhurst, Oakland. The train tracks are where they hang out," he says to me. I then search up where that is and begin walking back to my car. As I get to my car, I turn around and say,
