An; THIS IS IT GUYS!! here it is- THE chapter. I'd like to apologise for how absolutely atrociously written this is, but i'm too tired to function so senjoy

"Avery,"

I felt that sick twisting sensation in my stomach, that pent up fear and dread surging back to life at the mere sound of his voice.

"Hey, uh, Bode let me in."

I simply nodded, schooling my face into a small, tight-lipped smile. "I'm glad you could make it."

His hand brushed against mine as I brushed past him, and it took everything in me not to recoil, not to slap him away. Not to pull him closer.

"Come on then," I said softly, turning to face him. I let out a dry rasping sound that I had intended to be a laugh, but it seemed to die in my throat. I squeezed my palms together as he followed me, drawing closer my the second. My breaths were shaky as I climbed the stairs, my legs wabbling beneath me.

We were so close. So damned close to that door that I could feel it. I could feel the pulsing magic on the other side of it, could feel the faint heartbeat-like rhythm of it, and I could only pray that Gabe could not.

I caught him watching me from the corner of his eye. His glance was sharp, sparkling wickedly with some sort of unyielding strength, some secret behind those captivating eyes that put him above me, somehow. He had some sort of advantage.

And then I saw it.

In the way he watched me. In the way he waited.

He knows.

I felt the ache of our lies melt away into nothing but a numb knowledge between us. He knows. He knows I know. He knows what I'm doing. But why come?

Every moment up until now had been a lie. But now, in our silent exchange of glances came a quiet understanding.

I know who you are, my eyes told his. But why come?

Why willingly walk into a death trap? Why risk it all?

Whatever his reasons were, they no longer mattered. Here and now. Now or never.

I shoved him.

I shoved him with every ounce of strength in me, amplified a thousand times over by the Hercules belt at my waist.

He grinned.

And then with a dawning sense of dread, I realised Gabe too had a plan. He hadn't just known I planned to kill him, he'd been counting on it.

"Such a shame," He murmured, arms locking with mine as we began a vicious brawl, "That things had to turn out this way."

I said nothing, focusing my energy on getting him through that door. Into the wellhouse. According to Uncle Dunc, it'd be the only way to kill him.

"Kinsey, Tyler!" I called, struggling against him. He was so strong, so inhumanly strong, even against the magic of the Hercules belt that I couldn't help but wonder how he had always been so gentle.

They came bolting out of the bathroom adjacent to my room, and tackled Gabe backwards, through the door. With an animalistic cry, he gripped onto the doorframe, battling to stop himself from being thrown over the threshold.

In one swift movement, the chain key was in his hand, and the thick metal coil collided with my stomach, beating us back one by one against the balcony. Tyler stumbled to his feet to charge at Gabe, who knocked him out with a swift jab to the head.
