Poem: Fear's Breakup Letter

We fell in love
Like a fairytale,
"How romantic" they snickered.
Popular, smart, attractive, athletic...
You have it all.
And I'm afraid,
Afraid that you'd realize I'm not good enough,
Afraid you'd leave with someone else.
I'm insecure and have attachment issuses,
I'm not fit to even gaze
At your perfection
Or walk alongside you.
I listened to the whispers of the people.
The people whose words
Cut like knives
And felt like salt
Rubbing our wounds.
Those intrusive thoughts I tried to fight
Consumed me and ruined my already unstable
Frame of mind.
If we ever break up I hope you find this.
I still love you,
I'm sorry
