With anyone else, it may have bothered him that they were still laughing. But with you, your laughter filled his heart with joy. Knowing he could make you laugh made his day.

"(y/n)! Nick! Just in time!"

Kaitlyn walked up to you two and clapped her hands together.

"We got wood!"

You pointed at the large pile of sticks Nick was holding. Ryan snorted at your wording, probably thinking something dirty.

"Nice! But we've already done that joke.."

Nick only shrugged at the amount in his arms, "It's mostly just kindling.." He said.

"Oh, that's all we need. There's already a big pile of logs here." Kaitlyn told you two, gesturing to the non-lit pile of wood on the floor.

"We could have gotten more but uh-" You held in a laugh, "There was a hog or a boar and Nick was super brave and took one for the team."

Nick grimaced at the memory while you only laughed at the past events. Kaitlyn seemed lost at first before gasping.

"Oh my gosh, it can't be! The Hog of Hackett's Quarry!" She exclaimed. You laughed once again at your friend's joke and shook your head.

"Thought you hated that phrase?" Ryan asked her with a smile.

"Big jokes take big sacrifices." Kaitlyn's monotone voice made you go up to her and wrap your arms around her shoulders.

"It's okay, Kaitlyn. That was very brave of you." Your childhood friend only shook her head at you, but returned the hug nonetheless.

The sound of fireworks took you out of your hug with Kaitlyn and you looked to see where it came from.

"Special delivery!" Emma called out. Behind her was your brother and Abi.

Jacob pushed a wheelbarrow towards the group while Abi stayed next to Emma, who was holding onto a shotgun. But before you could question her about it, Kaitlyn beat you to it.

"Whoa whoa whoa! Where the hell did that gun come from?" Kaitlyn asked the three, now worried for their safety.

"Uh- dude relax! Okay, it's not even real!" Jacob attempted to calm down the situation.

"Uhhh-"

"Well- I mean it's a real gun but it's just for shooting bears."

"We found it in the storage room." Emma revealed.

Jacob scoffed at Kaitlyn's stern expression and threw a hand up in the air. "Okay fine, fine. We'll put it down."

"Thank you. Guns are no joke, dipshit." Kaitlyn's shoulders relaxed a little and you scoffed.

"Yeah, remember when you threatened to shoot a boy I had over cause you thought he was my boyfriend?" You asked your brother, who rolled his eyes at the story.

"Yeah yeah, anyway." He dismissed, putting the wheelbarrow down to the ground. "We bring you a hand-picked selection of only the finest Hackett's Quarry has to offer.."
