Red, Red Rogue

I saw him under a coconut tree;
A dressed to kill, bare-chested, tyranny.
Did you see him?
An unmissable romantic;
Did you see him?
Something quite frantic.

At the mercy of the Indian Ocean,
I ask a simply question.
"Who are you when the doors are closing?"
I'm still waiting for an answer.
On the Island of Gods, far removed from home,
There's a man with an ache deep in his bones.
Some say he partied too hard on a Grecian Isle,
The Mermaid Cafe drowned his sorrows.
But the truth is something so wickedly vile;
This red, red rogue's time is borrowed.

I saw him again, this time sipping from mangoes;
An otherworldly, earthy hippie; who knows.
Did you see him?
A forceful starlight;
Did you see him?
Shining in the tropical night.

Crushed between islands, Grecian or not;
His soul screeches, "Run!", and so, he darts.
To the furthest island a plane ticket will allow;
He can grow old here, with the rice and mounds.
But should he feel the need to return,
A man regenerated will fill his shoes;
With scores to settle and bridges to burn;
Bend to break to beat the bruise.
And in him, paths cross and lessons learn,
The red, red rogue's sunset views.

I saw him for the last time, the very last time;
A jungle like reflection of what used to be mine.
Did you see him?
A mate I hope to see again,
Did you see him?
Someone I will soon call a friend.
