When hazel walked into school she immediately felt a familiar sensation of dread. She went to class, threw her backpack on the floor, and sat down. "Hazel you seem more down than usual, what's up kid?" Her teacher, Mr.link, asked. "As if you care."
"Hazel I do care, I'm your teacher and I want you to be the best you can be!" Mr. Link was an oddball. He didn't always smile like the others. He was still happy but didn't like showing it. According to him "just because I'm happy doesn't mean that someone else is 24/7. Would you smile if your friend was crying?" Hazel liked that motto. She thought everyone else should follow it once in a while. "Well if your not going to tell me what's wrong then I'll just give you an extra assignment. I know you're already done with your project" ugh. He always did that. "Fine, whatever. I met a guy that knew russian like me and I totally blew it all because he smiled. I made him go away." She felt helpless, like he wouldn't even care. But then the unexpected came. "You mean will? He's like the only guy in school that knows Russian. Don't talk to him though, he's known for being a word that I can't say or I'll lose my job" of course he was, of course there's a reason not to talk to someone that actually has something in common with her. Whatever. "Well kid I have to take attendance, and do the pledge, and take lunch, count blah blah blah etc.. just draw for this class period I really don't care." Then the dreaded announcements came on. "GOOD MORNING STAR SCHOOL! Please stand for the pledge of allegiance!" She stood up and recited the stupid pledge to the stupid flag.
"I promise to always stand
To Fight for my country
To Fight for my rights
And to fight for my love
I live in Alammia
And I will help in our path to justice"
That pledge was so weird.
She started working on a drawing of a girl in space, she was falling down a mystic vortex. It was pink, purple, blue, white, and black. The mix made hazel feel a little fuzzy, but only a little. They were her "favorite colors" only because they looks good. The colors didn't have personalities, so she just called them pretty colors, not favorites. Then the announcements came on, the scariest kind. "Code red lock down. This is not a drill. Do not panic, there is a tall white male with a black outfit. Take caution and don't let your kids out of your room. Barricade and lock the doors, hide somewhere no one will find. This was it. She was a goner. No one would be able to find her remains. Then she thought, no one can go out this way. "Tackle him when he comes in. 20 kids against A guy with a gun is easy. Get him from behind, there's a closet to the left of the door but he'll go right because the door blocks it. We need to stay quiet, no giggling, no crying, no screaming. Got it?"
"Got it."
