NANCY HAD TAKEN Kate into Max's room whenever she and Steve had safely gotten through the gate.

No one had spoken to her since she'd come out of her trance. Not really. Steve had seen the panicked confusion in her eyes whenever she'd finally come to, the (what he'd interpreted as) subtle relief flashing over her face whenever she realized that he was a real person, not just something in her mind. He'd helped lift her out to the best of his ability, partially because she'd still been so shaken up, not to mention how weak he still felt. Robin, Nancy, and Eddie had already been waiting on the other side, and they quickly picked her up off of the mattress. Nancy and Max had taken Kate over to her trailer across the street before Steve had even gotten through the gate himself.

Steve hadn't had much time to react before Eddie and Robin had guided him and the kids across the street to sit in Max's living room. His heart still raced, and the adrenaline had finally started to wear off. Max had gotten him some acetaminophen to help the pain from his now scabbed-over wounds, ones that he knew he needed to go clean up before they got infected. He wasn't worried about that right now though.

All he cared about was Kate.

He couldn't begin to understand how this had happened. She hadn't had any nosebleeds. Kate had always been prone to headaches, so it didn't seem unlikely that she would have one of those and not say something. She might've had an episode, sure, but that wasn't a nightmare, never mind the multiple ones that Max had talked about having. Besides, Kate hadn't mentioned seeing a clock. None of it made any sense: there was absolutely no reason for her to be a victim of Vecna, yet she nearly had been.
