I knew a man so timid
Just like a springtime hare
A man healthy but foolish
And always in my care
His heart was indecisive
And shifted like the tide
He'd never be a sailor
But swam so he could hide
One day I found him drowning
Somewhere along the coast
I often found their bodies
But I liked him the most
He clung to me, hands trembling
His clothes were soaking wet
I stroked his hair so fondly
And then proposed a bet
My dear, you are no sailor
You don't deserve to drown
I'll gladly take you with me
But you won't stick around
His heart was indecisive
And shifted like the tide
He sailed with me for just a year
Then back to land to hide
