There was a woman who bought a pet snake. It was a 12 foot long Burmese python. She lived alone in a small house with her younger son and kept the snake in a tank in the living room.
The pet snake had a habit of running away from its tank. After a while, the woman began to feel guilty for keeping such a large reptile in such a small, confined space.
She would often take the snake out of her tank and let it roam freely in the house. Her younger son loved the pet snake and often brought it to the garden to play with.
One morning the woman saw that the pet snake had stopped eating. Three days passed and the snake still had not touched any of its food. The woman started getting worried that something was wrong with the snake, so she picked up the phone and called the vet.
"Is it normal for a snake to suddenly stop eating?" He asked.
"It depends," said the vet. "In the wild, snakes often have to survive for long periods without food. Sometimes, they starve themselves in preparation for a big meal. Pet snakes can also get bored with what you are feeding them. They like a change in food from time to time."
The woman followed the vet's advice and bought a new type of food for her pet, but the snake still refused to eat anything.
After some time, the woman woke up in the middle of the night and saw her pet snake lying on the bed next to her. She was sleeping lying flat on the bed. Thinking it was a bit strange, he picked it up and put it back in the tank.
A few days later his son was playing with a snake in the garden. The woman was washing dishes in the kitchen when she peeped through the window. His son was lying on the grass. The snake lay next to it, stretched out and hard as a board.
The woman was convinced that the snake was dying. He immediately grabbed the phone to call the vet again.
"My pet snake still isn't eating," she said.
"I don't think there is anything to worry about," replied the vet. "Just keep an eye on it and if it's still not eating by the end of the month, bring it to my office."
"There's something else," said the woman. "The other night, I found him lying on the bed next to me. It was stretched straight and completely rigid. ,
"Oh no!" The vet said with alarm. "You have to get rid of the snake as fast as you can. It has to be put down."
"Why? What's wrong with that?" asked the woman.
"That's what snakes do when they're measuring you," he said.
"You're measuring me?" He asked.
"It was shaping you to eat it," he replied.
The terrified woman looked out of the window just in time and saw her little son's legs disappearing down the snake's neck.
