Backstory| Valentine had a pretty normal childhood, minus the fact people made jokes about his name. People thinking he was gay or something, but he never gave anyone time of the day. He went through life, just keeping to himself and helping his parents when they needed help.
He had no real plans, til the spokespersons for the army came to his high school. Valentine deciding he could do that, so he started taking ROTC and getting physically fit. He easily got in, making his parents proud since his Grandfather fought for the country as well. His little sister being worried, but he promised her he would always come back.
He started doing tours a year after graduating from high school, he ended up losing his parents to a car crash while he was on his 3rd tour making him 21. His sister was 18, so he decided his money was to go to paying for her apartment and college tuition. He ended up doing another 3 tours after grieving, his sister being indebted to him and thankful he was still around. During his tours he would get grazed, but never hurt enough to lose anything. He considered himself lucky, though...even that luck has to run out. Which...is how he lost his best friend, Derrick who took a bullet for him. That tour was what ended it for him, so he decided to go home.
He had just finished his last tour and while returning home the military started killing people, so Valentine took it upon himself to get his sister from college and run. They drove and drove, reaching to the east coast believing it would be safe there. They ended up being wrong, which caused Valentine to lose Penelope to a walker bite. He was found in his grief killing by Daryl, who took him back to the group. He explained how it was just as bad on the west coast and that he didn't know anything of what was happening, the group taking him in. He became the protector, watching the roads with Dale just trying to do his part.
