About the story - Queen of Disaster

Throughout her life, Diana Greengrass was raised to hate all Muggles and Muggleborns, fear half-breeds such as werewolves, believe that Divination was a useless class, and to detest the idea of romance and falling in love. Although Diana never expected that all her beliefs would change in a single year. That was until she met a mysterious boy in Diagon Alley, named Remus Lupin. It was mysterious, because on their first encounter, only a few weeks before the start of their fifth year, Diana experienced something that terrified her: the moment she accidentally touched Remus's hand for the first time, Diana felt a cold and dark feeling rush through her body.Thinking that the mysterious boy had probably jinxed or cursed her, Diana ran away from him, unaware that the vision she just had was going to change her life forever.

1. How did you come to know the Harry Potter franchise and even start writing Harry Potter fanfictions on Wattpad?

It all started one day when I went to my grandparents' house after kindergarten. Their tv was on a random channel and it was showing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I'd never heard of the movie, but right at that moment I was hooked by the first scene I saw, which was when Harry had snuck into the library under his invisibility cloak. After years of watching the movies and reading the books, I came upon Wattpad. A Draco Malfoy Fanfiction popped on my account, and I started reading it out of curiosity. I enjoyed it so much that I began to read any Harry Potter Fanfiction I could find. And after a few months, I thought I would write one of my own just for fun. I began to post a Draco Malfoy story on Wattpad, very badly written, and of course long-deleted now. But it was the first story of mine on this app that had gotten more than 10k reads. I eventually stopped writing on Wattpad for a long while, but five years later when quarantine started and I found myself bored and in need of something fun to do, I began to write 'Muggle'.

2. What makes your character Diana the "Queen of Disaster" to you? Do you find it difficult to create her characteristics and background?

I did find creating Diana's character rather difficult at the beginning, because I didn't have much in common with her. Diana was a grumpy and seemingly cold-hearted girl, raised by extremely strict parents that put their families' honor before her happiness. She grew up to have the same wrong beliefs as her parents; that all muggles and muggle borns are scum, or that Werewolves and half-breeds are all monsters. But what I've enjoyed the most about writing Diana has been her character development, and how she keeps trying to grow out of all the terrible beliefs she was taught to have. For me, this is why she's 'the Queen of Disaster'; because her change of heart and her extraordinary powers — though they might be a great thing at first — will eventually lead her to terrible consequences, but she'll fight her way through all the disastrous events that might come her way.

3. Is Remus Lupin your favorite Maurauder member? Why did you choose to explore more sides of him with this story?

My favorite Marauder is probably Sirius, but Remus Lupin holds a special place in my heart. I think it might be because out of all the Harry Potter characters, I feel more alike to Remus's personality than anyone else. But the reason I decided to explore and expand his life is because of the hauntingly sad story he's had; from when he was a five-year-old boy, all the way to the day he died. He never thought he was worthy of love when he was younger, so I wanted to write a story in which he could be proven wrong. In which he could be given a chance to live a happier life.

4. You have written a lot of Harry Potter fanfictions, what is your favorite story out of all? And why?

I think 'Potter' is always going to be my all-time-favorite. Perhaps it's because this story used to be the scenario I always played in my head when I was a kid, day and night. It was a really personal story to me that I almost backed out of posting it for others to read. But I eventually began to write it two weeks after I'd started 'Muggle'. I matured the storyline and changed many things from what I used to have in mind, but now I'm glad that I did post it in the end. Because I can't describe just how happy it makes me when someone tells me they've enjoyed reading the story.

5. If you could take a class in Hogwarts, what would it be? And why?

Probably Defense Against the Dark Arts, because I think I would find the spells and hexes and learning about dark creatures very interesting.

6. What is your advice for new writers who want to try writing Harry Potter fanfiction?

I know I still have a long way to go before reaching my dream of becoming an author, but back when I wrote my first Harry Potter Fanfiction on Wattpad, I only had one reader. And all that one reader did was to leave criticizing comments on my story, every chapter telling me how terrible the writing was, or pointing out all my grammar and spelling errors. But instead of giving up, I used to get excited whenever that person commented, because it made me feel good that I had at least one person reading my story, and that was enough for me to keep on going at that time. So I think my advice would be that whatever your goal is, whatever future you're looking forward to, never stop dreaming, never give up, and never stop believing in yourself.
