My name is Naomi, and I am a chemist from the Netherlands. I have a tendency to write in different genres, but anything magical and out-of-this-world is usually what I go for. I write in both English and Dutch. My favourite stories are those that convey deep relationships between characters - not just the romantic kind.

Morgan le Fay Institute for Magic explores the question: What happened to all those children who developed their magical abilities after the age of twelve? They're not allowed in Hogwarts, so what if there was a whole other school focused specifically on these kids? In this story, we follow Ravenna, who isn't allowed in Hogwarts because she can't control her magic; she's too dangerous around so many other kids. Morgan le Fay did take her in, though. The story is set in the 1970s, when Voldemort was rising to power and looking for the most powerful witches and wizards to join his ranks - such as Ravenna, with her uncontrollable, yet incredibly powerful magic.

1. What made you start writing on Wattpad? Is "'Morgan le Fay Institute for Magic" your first Harry Potter fanfiction?
While I've always loved books, I discovered my love for writing at a fairly late age. I must've been about 20. I wanted to get better at it, learn more and develop my writing skills. That's what I came to Wattpad to do. And I was not disappointed! Book clubs and other community services have been absolutely amazing in helping me get better at writing. Morgan le Fay is not my first Harry Potter fanfic. I used to have more fanfics on this account, but at one point I moved them all over to my other account: hogwartsdungeons. That's where I keep all my fanfics. I mostly placed Morgan le Fay on this account because I wanted to enter it into the Wattys. But now I've gotten a bunch of amazing comments and love on it, so I think I'll leave it here.
2. Your story aims to create a wizarding world that is open to readers outside the fandom. Do you face any difficulties building everything brand new but keeping people in the loop with what is going on related to the Potterverse details that you mentioned?
Actually, that's not as hard as it sounds! I know the fandom like the back of my hand, and I know my own story just as well. I let go of the fandom, and thought only of my story. All I had to do was decide which parts of the Potterworld I needed to show for my story to make sense to readers; things like Voldemort, the Death Eaters, etc. I made it easier to show those things by letting my characters be fairly unaware of them as well; the reader would learn about them along with my characters. Basically, I treated Morgan le Fay like an original story and assumed that readers would need to learn everything about the world my characters live in.
3. In "Morgan le Fay Institute for Magic", you focus on the friendship and even the friends-to-lovers trope. Is there any specific reason for this focus? Was there any alternative besides these?
Friends-to-lovers (and in fact slowburn romances) is definitely one of my favourite tropes. There are many good ones, but this one is so good at building that tension, that chemistry between characters. I just love it!
4. Why "Morgan le Fay Institute of Magic"? Not Hogwarts or any magic school? Is there any inspiration behind the name and the setting for the magic school?
The main idea behind this story was the question: where do those kids go that develop their magic after the age of twelve? We all know Hogwarts doesn't accept them, because they only have 11-year-olds in their first year. So where do they go? I purposely created a new school, to show that they would be 'cast out' of the normal wizarding society. In my search for a new name for my school, I looked up important wizarding figures in (real-life) history. Morgan le Fay was one of the very few women I came across, and I felt like using the name of a woman for the school made it extra clear that the norms and values on this school aren't as outdated as they are at Hogwarts, so that decision was made quickly!
5. If you were a character in your own story, who would you be? And why?
When I was a teenager, I was probably most like Ezra, haha! I was always a bit grumpy, rolling my eyes a lot, being all sarcastic. But at the same time, I had a big heart and was much more insecure than I perhaps let on. I think Ezra is exactly like that, although I hadn't really realised the likeness while I was writing it.
6. What is your future project for you? Do you plan to continue writing Harry Potter fanfiction?
My current project is an original story (a Dutch thriller - it's proving to be a ton of fun!), but I don't think I'll ever stop writing fanfiction. It's just too much fun to dive into our world of magic, isn't it?
