When I'm Gone

part 4

i ended up crying myself to sleep but when i woke up the next morning tony was already out of the bed no shocker there i got into the shower taking about twenty minutes then i got out drying off and getting dressed in shorts and a tank top before y'all say anything i decided that i wasn't going to school i'm just gonna skip and go to the gym to blow off some steam so i put my hair in a mid ponytail then did my usual routine telling my dad where i was going then leaving gigi wasn't there either so i figured she rode to school with tony which didn't really bother me once i made it to the gym i swiped my membership card then walked to the stairmaster turning it on and putting in my airpods blasting music and starting my reps i did 3 reps for 20 minutes each then i stepped down with my legs absolutely burning going to the hip abductor sitting down

Derek: ***************

i looked at him confused then paused my music placing my airpod's back in their case and closing my legs giving them a break

Y: huh
Derek: i said if i didn't know any better i'd think you were following me
Y: well since you came to me first i'm thinking you're following me
Derek: actually i saw you walk in but you looked kind of upset so i decided to leave you alone
Y: it was that noticeable huh
Derek: to me at least you ok
Y: can we talk about this in an hour or so when i'm ready to leave
Derek: yea i was gonna go to an ice cream bar afterwards if you want to come with me
Y: sure
Derek: alright i'll let you get back to it

i watched derek walk back to the weights while i put my airpods back in turning my music back on and getting back to my workout once i was completely finished my legs felt numb i guess i was too busy thinking about tony and what to do that i forgot all about going past my limit i got up walking to door but once i put my hand on the door my knee buckled and i almost fell until derek put his arms under mine lifting me back to my feet and opening the door so i can walk out

Derek: woah now you good
Y: yea just went past my limit and my legs are killing me
Derek: you sure you can drive
Y: yea i'll be fine
Derek: you should just go home and get some rest
Y: i have ice cream in my freezer if you want to come
Derek: yea i'm down lead the way

i nodded going to my car and getting in sitting down for a little and taking in a few deep breaths before starting the car and pulling out of the parking lot i was looking in my rearview making sure derek was behind me the whole way there once we made it i parked in the driveway and he parked behind me then we got out our cars walking inside

Derek: wow and i thought the outside was nice
Y: ehh it's none special
Derek: well i think it's amazing
Dad: do i hear a boy

my dad came out of his room and stood a few feet away from me and derek making eye contact with me then looking at him

Dad: is he a new boyfriend
Y: nope still with tony
Dad: then who is this
Y: this is derek he's new to town
Dad: well hello derek
Derek: hey sir
Dad: so how'd y'all meet
Y: we met in class
Dad: is he a future boyfriend
Y: no dad please go back in your room
Dad: fine love you
Y: love you too

once he went back in his room derek looked at me laughing and i shook my head going into the kitchen and getting the ice cream with two spoons then we walked to the couch while i turned in the tv and we started eating and just having friendly conversation talking about his party our families our love life just anything that came to mind

Derek: i have some friends that'll be coming to the party i think it'll be amazing for them to know that first friend i made was a pretty girl
Y: i'm tired of being the trophy girl
Derek: no i won't treat you as a trophy girl i just want my new friend to meet my old friends well not old but hometown friend
Y: are they moving down here too
Derek: that's the thing they're gonna come for a month then decide if they want to stay once that month is over although one of them said they'll stay the month but they're definitely not staying apparently same reason they won't come back is the same reason why i wanted to leave new jersey and why you want to leave here just too many bad memories
Y: so they're from here
Derek: yup are you ok with meeting them
Y: sure i mean not like i have many friends anyway
Derek: perfect i must warn you though they can be a tad bit thirsty from time to time but once they realize you're not interested they'll back off
Y: who knows i may want multiple boyfriends
Derek: ok ms heartbreaker don't break too many hearts at this party
Y: don't worry maybe just one or two

me and derek made eye contact laughing then we looked back at the show hours passed and by now we put down the ice cream and had our heads leaned against different sides of the couch drifting off to sleep derek fell asleep first i could tell by the loud sounds of him snoring and once my mind stopped racing i closed my eyes and finally drifted off to sleep as well
