Chapter Twelve - First Days Suck

Start from the beginning

Danny sighs and I know he's late for work already. "I'll just rush her in, we'll be quick, just wait in the passenger seat," I mutter up to him, and he hesitates before nodding and getting back in the car saying a good-bye to Hallie.

"Be quick," he says and I nod, grabbing Hallie's hand and making our way through the busy crowd. The teenagers weirdly making me feel more comfortable, mainly since they're on their phones and to into their own world to notice Hallie and I.

Teenagers are honestly the best, they're so in-tuned with the world and such interesting people to talk to. I mean they have such a different perspective of the world and it's so interesting to see that view.

They're also really fucking funny with their dry humour.

Hallie and I arrive at her classroom, some children already inside playing or talking with other kids, while a few parents float around. Taking a breath, we both walk in and are greeted by her teacher, whose a younger woman and from first impression is incredibly sweet and bubbly.

Kind of if a cupcake was a person, thats the aura her teacher - Mrs Mary - gives off as she welcomes us in happily.

"I'm scared, Lolli," Hallie says, squeezing my hand as I help her put her schoolbag away in one of the cubbies.

Bending down to her level again, the classroom filled with parents and kids. "I know, babe." I sigh, my heart squeezing at her shy nervous demeanour. "But, look theirs Lily over there, how about we go say hi," I smile.

She follows the direction of my pointed finger and looks over at Lily - her friend - who sits alone, quietly drawing at a table in the corner.

"Okay," she nods, but grabs my hand again.

We walk over to the table and Lily perks up, her eyes widening once she sees Hallie. "Hallie!" she shouts and embraces her into a hug, the blonde almost white of her hair flowing around like a hurricane.

Hallie seems a little taken back, but lets go of my hand to embraces her back. "Hi," Hallie smiles and Lily grabs her hand, bringing her over to the table and they begin drawing and colouring with a bunch of sheets of paper and pencils left out.

"See you out front after school, babe," I tell her and she nods, blowing me a kiss before going back to her drawing.

I smile, before rushing out of the class and back down the hallway, meeting an impatient Danny as I murmur a bunch of 'sorry's' as I put the car in drive.

"How was she?" Danny asks, looking up from the bunch of papers in his hand.

"Nervous, but then she found her friend and was fine after," I shrug and he nods, looking back down at a file in his hand. "Whats that?" I ask curiously, keeping my eye on the road to seem casual incase asking is intrusive. I mean, it could be, it's his work stuff, some people are iffy about that.

He looks up. "Uh, just some sketches I'm looking over, but they're sh-".

"Language," I tell him, and he rolls his eyes, Bridie giggling from the back seat.

He rolls his eyes. "Sorry," he adds sheepishly.

After dropping off Danny at his work, since his truck is getting some work done on it, Bridie and I begin our drive back home. "Lolli?" Bridie's little voice calls from the back seat.

I perk up and look at her through the rearview mirror, her hair is up in two little space buns and she's wearing a 'Bluey' t-shirt with a pair of denim shorts.

She loves Bluey like every other four year old on this planet. But I don't mind since the show is actually quite entertaining and the I love the Australian accents.
