you knock on the door repeatedly until it opens to present an annoyed joyce byers but when she sees it’s you she smiles instantly,
“hello y/n!”
“hey ms. byers! can i come in?”
“of course,” she opens the door wider and as you step in she shouts, “JANE, Y/N IS HERE!” foot steps are heard pattering downstairs and jane comes down and beams at you,
“you’re here!”
“i brought you gifts!” you chirp, gesturing towards the bag under your arm,
“what kind of gifts?”
you grin at her devilishly, “you’re gonna have to see when we get upstairs!” you turn the corner into the kitchen and see jane’s dad grabbing something out of the fridge, “hey chief!” you salute him and he chuckles to himself. jane tells you she’ll be setting a few things up and then coming to get you and excuses herself,
“hello y/n, what’s in the bag?”
“a gift for jane!” you beam at him, to which he smiles at you. whenever you walked into the byers/hopper home you seemed to brighten the mood so they enjoyed your company, you carried on conversation with jim seeing jane grabbing snacks and drinks and hurrying to her room to put them up there and then coming back down and grabbing more. you went over to the fridge to grab a bottle of water when you felt a tug on your sleeve,
“do you want to go upstairs now?” jane asks smiling,
“mhm! here! don’t open it until i get up there, i’m gonna grab a bottle of water!” you hand her the bag and watch as she makes her way upstairs. you open the fridge grab your water and head to janes room, you trip on the second to last step upstairs and jane is there and looks worried, “oh! i’m okay!”
“are you okay up there?” joyce’s voice calls from the living room,
“i fell but i’m okay!” you shout back giggling, jane helps you up and you walk into her room.
“you can open it now!”
jane opens the gift and when she sees what’s inside she gives you a look of confusion, she grabs one of the cassette tapes out of the bag and examines it, “what’s this?”
“basically just a bunch of cassettes i got for you! i also got you a walkman because will said you like to listen to music so i just got you music i think you’d like!” you take the bag out of her hand and start listing off the artists, “there’s journey, blondie, madonna, bowie, queen, michael jackson, and abba!”
the next 25 minutes consists of you showing jane how to use the walkman and her listening to the first few minutes of some of the cassettes. when you’re done she looks at you like you’ve hung the stars, “this is very cool!” then she grabs your arm and the walkman and you make your way down stairs. joyce and jim are seen talking in the kitchen when they’re met with a beaming jane hopper,
“y/n got me a walkman!” she hands it to joyce who takes it in hand wide eyed,
"oh my gosh y/n, how much did you spend?"
you wake a second to ponder that, how much did you spend? "uhhhhhhhhhh like $120? i mean most of the cassette tapes are my old ones, like the sheer heart attack one by queen and a day at the races by queen." you snap your fingers which makes jane jump a little, "damn it! i forgot the hounds of love cassette at my house!" you whine,
"wait you spent $120?" jane gasps, "thats a lot right?"
"i dont think its that much is it? i mean you haven't told me your birthday yet, so what if i already missed it? plus i have to make up for all the birthday's I've already missed!" you ramble.
