It was 7 O'clock in the evening. Anirudh was sitting on his chair in the balcony engrossed in a book.
"Babaaaa" his 4 yr old twins climbed up his lap.
"What?" Smiled Anirudh taking the book up to make space for both.
"Who's this??" Dustu showed him a framed picture. Anirudh gave a look at it and the glance made a vacuum in his heart. He controlled himself and answered.
"It's my Ma... ur thakuma"
"Chhaa.. our Thakuma is Sampurna thakuma" replied Mistu
"Yess and she's ur ma too... u call her ma..." agreed Dustu.
Suddenly the lights went off. The babies hold their father's shirt tight. The full moonlight relieved them a bit.
"No... she's nt my ma... she's ur Pipi's ma... nt mine... my ma... went away long ago..." Anirudh answered caressing his babies head looking straight at the sky.
"Where did she go??" Asked Dustu.
Anirudh remained quite.
"She went to the stars" the answer came from behind. Anirudh looked back and saw Bondita standing there with a lamp in her hand. She placed the lamp on the table and adjusted the flame.
"When will she return??" Asked Mistu
"The one who goes to the stars never returns!" Answered Bondita.
Anirudh saw a little tear on Bondita's eyes shinning in the lamp light. Her tears made him teary too.
"You people will never go there na..." asked Dustu with concern in his voice.
"Never...." Bondita knelt down and kissed their forehead.
"Now go and keep the picture where it was.... take a torch.. and go slowly.." instructed Bondita
The twins took the torch and ran.
"GO SLOWLYYY"
"Bondita" Anirudh called frm behind.
"Yess"
"You remember ur baba..."
"Very much..."
Anirudh hold her shoulders, "If I ever go to meet ur father then you can manage the kids na....."
Bondita covered his lips with her hands "Never dare to utter these words again infront of me......"
Anirudh removed her hand "life has no certainty Bondita, n I've seen ur life...."
"I'll never let my kids lead a life I had.... n will never let u go too... so keep ur mouth shut.." Bondita's voice became heavy.
Anirudh went close to her. She gulped to control her tears. He hold her cheeks and both lips were about to....
"Shiv shiv shiv....."
The couple looked at the door and saw Kaka standing there with a lamp with his eyes closed
"Now kaka why do u always come at the wrong time" scholded Anirudh.
"I thought u and ur kids r playing ludo out here.. so I came to join.. how will I know u r.. shiv shiv... door is open balcony is open.. if kids see.. if someone frm outside see.. shiv shiv... by the way... when are my second pair of grandchildren comming?"
"Not in this lifetime..." Anirudh left.
Kaka looked at Bondita who's looking at him with a hopeless face.
"What? Not my fault... u shud hav locked the door"
