We stood there. Me, and Arthur. Standing over the bullet ridden corpse of my brother. Esme was distraught on our way in as we assumed. Arthur was leaned against a pillar, clinging to a bottle of gin while he weeped
"In the bleak midwinter.."
And I. I stood there. Tears forming in my eyes as they couldn't help but examine each bullet hole visible to me.
"Arthur come here. You know what we promised."
I reminded Arthur of our agreement with John while we were in France and Arthur quickly gathered himself the best he could and stumbled beside me, clinging tightly to that bottle of gin.
"In the bleak midwinter.."
We finally said together as tears formed in our eyes and rolled down our cheeks as we stood over his body and moments later Esme came running in, quickly running at me, beating her fists against my chest as hard as she could.
"HOW COULD YOU?!" Esme cried out
I quickly grasped her wrists and held her still, telling her we'd avenge John. Though it wasn't much, we set up a find for her and Johns children. And let her know that she's always a part of our family.
Even though I wouldn't be surprised if she disappeared and cut ties with us. But once you're a Shelby, you stay a Shelby.
Johnny Dogs ended up coming to get Esme and took her home while Nina sat in the hospital room with Micheal, Polly and Ada
Arthur and I stayed in the morgue for a while.
Saying our goodbyes and hoping he's found some peace.
