"It was a sacrifice you made," she reasoned. "And it was one of the few options you had. Above all, it was for her sake."
"I guess I knew that when I decided to become an assassin."
"You did," she assured, looking directly at me now. "You worked for Garden so she could have a roof over her head and food to eat. If my sister gave up her childhood so that I could keep mine... I'd never be mad at her. Ever."
A single tear spilled out of my eye. I didn't even know I was crying until I felt the water trickle down my cheek, pool at my chin, and drip onto my lap. Sasha noticed this too as I closed my eyes and felt myself being pulled into a warm embrace.
"And besides, that's not who you are anymore. You're no longer a Garden assassin. You're Agent Hecate."
Upon hearing that, I opened my eyes and wrapped my arms around her. But as my vision cleared, I could've sworn I saw someone behind a tree look away from me and then hide.
Ophelia. Friday, 7:04PM.
"Ophelia! Come in, Yuri's just setting up the dining table," Yor said.
"Oh, thank you!" I said, admiring the taller woman in front of me. "You look beautiful, Yor."
She held her fingers to her lips and widened her eyes. "Really? Thank you, I'm heading out to work in a few minutes but I thought I'd wait until you arrived so we could all catch up together," she smiled.
I proceeded to walk into Yuri's home—it was quaint but nicely kept. He's a man of order, and naturally, his apartment was quite orderly as well. He never bothered to decorate his walls since he spent most of his time at work. He also found extra decorations to clutter his home the same way they'd "clutter his mind," so he tended to shy away from them altogether.
"Hi Yuri," I greeted upon seeing him in the dining room. He meticulously placed utensils on either side of each plate, had each placemat perfectly parallel to the edges of the table, and even lined up coasters at a perfect angle to the plates.
He promptly jolted his head upwards, clearly lost in his task, and paused everything he was doing to approach me. He hugged me loosely and seemed to let go before I could even bask in his warmth.
He didn't even kiss me.
"Hi Ophelia, how are you? Anything exciting go on at work this week?"
"Oh, um, not necessarily... but I visited my sister a few days ago," I grinned.
"Did you really?" Yor asked. "That must be so exciting! She must be as gorgeous as you are."
I held my hand to my chest earnestly at her complement. "Actually, she's everything I wish I was and more. Here, I have a picture," I said, pulling out my phone and scrolling through my recent photos. Yor walked around the dining table to me and Yuri, where even he was interested in seeing what my sister looked like.
"Here," I motioned, while the two of them leaned in towards me to get a better look. In the picture, I looked so excited to even be near her. She was just as warm and happy as she always was. Her jaw was sharper, face less full than mine, and her hair was a little shorter. Her eyes were slightly tired though; I could tell time might not have been so kind to her.
"I actually think you're much more beautiful than her," Yuri butted in. "But I'm biased, as no one could possibly be more beautiful than my girlfriend."
He doesn't compliment me often anymore, but that made me smile more than I'd like to admit.
"That's your sister?" Yor asked, still examining the photo. I nodded proudly.
