I'm pretty sure it's inspired on a video game.
It's an au where Nick is an Android (a kind of robot I think) and Charlie is a police officer.
The Androids are designed to protect the police officers and Nick is assigned to Charlie.
If an Android goes Deviant, they're extreemly dangerous.
Charlie was once nearly killed by his previous Android partner.
