Mai always liked to listen to the fireflies talk. She found them remarkably interesting and cute, but more than that everything else the real reason was because she always found all of them being magical being straight out of a fantasy. She loved fantasizing about all of them being main characters carrying out her fantasies and weaving them into reality.
"So where are we going today~" whispered Mai to herself as she silently followed the little fireflies flying to their next destination in the night.
"We are really going to that place those waterfalls. That our ancestors went to. The place that comes once a century! I am so excited." cheered the firefly as she danced her way to the place.
"Can you keep your voice low and slow down, you do know we all have to go together right. You may even get lost if u rush ahead of us." another firefly complained.
"But I can help it! I really look forward to going there~ We all might look like magical fairies when we reach there." the firefly replied
"Your compliments are buttering as ever but let's make haste and reach there as soon as possible the waterfall might disappear and we will never find our way again." stated another firefly as she joined in their conversation
Mai giggled to herself as she continued to jot down their little conversations. She loved watching them converse with each other so unique from each other they made the perfect dynamic in her eyes.
"I wish I could join them and have fun with all of them but I'm not a firefly like them I'm boring simple and plain would they even like me being around I might not even get to follow them around. I'll always remain as the side character in my story observing from the sidelines. My family and friends might think I'm weird if they came to know." Mai thought to herself about the same thing again and gave a huge sigh.
She shook off those thoughts and continued to follow them. Soon they reached the magnificent waters as the water atop the grassy mountains full of flowers flowed down to the river making the waterfall seem multicolored. But when the fireflies came in front of the already magnificent waterfalls the scene turned into something else, the waterfalls now seemed to be glowing and the whole scene seemed so breathtaking and peaceful as if it was beckoning her to come in and join them on this mystical occasion.
Taken in by the view she continued to come closer to the waters. Oblivious to the consequences that would await her.
Soon the fireflies noticed someone there as she came into view, the fireflies gasped they hadn't expected a human of all to come to this place. Mai had realized what she had done, fear struck her mind went blank. She did know if she could ever explain herself to them. They might go to a different location away from her and she might never see them again since she followed them everywhere.
"Umm... I, you see." She couldn't get the words out of her mouth she was too nervus to explain herself
"You can... hear us?" questioned one of them
"Huh? Yeah, I can" she replied confused of why they asked her such a question.
"Can see these beautiful waterfalls!" exclaimed the other
"Yes, I can see it... It's pretty..." She softly replied still not getting where this conversation was leading her.
"Would you like to join us in this moment and as a fellow member?" another firefly questioned
Mai's mind was swirling, she couldn't believe what she was hearing. The fireflies didn't even question her presence and asked her to join them! I was her dream, and it was happening!
"Yes! I want to join you all in your journey, can I, someone as boring and plain as me?"
"Of course, you were meant to be here! This is where you belong, that's why you were destined to meet us!" the firefly exclaimed, leaving a shining trail as it danced around her.
"You're not plain or boring. You just haven't seen yourself clearly see you're glowing just like us!" said the other,
Mai looked at herself in the river's reflection, they were right, her eyes were glowing just like the fireflies.
"I can't believe this is happening to me, but I'm human and all of you are fireflies. Everyone will think I'm weird or strange being with fireflies." Mai confessed
"Why are you thinking about others? You know this is where you belong, where you will feel happy. Aren't you sick of always being bound by other people? Don't you want to trust your own judgement?" the firefly questioned
Mai didn't know what to say. The fireflies had seen right through her. She felt relieved seeing friends who trust her, and didn't bound her who made her trust herself.
"I don't know if I can completely break out of that pressure, but I'll start here!" Mai declared finally confident in herself. Accepting the fact that she was a main character of her story from the very beginning.
She closed her eyes, and took a deep breath and when she opened her eyes she was alone she had known from the very begenning...
