"I need you to gather everyone here now," I blurted out, catching Avalon by surprise as he flinched when I entered, hearing him mumble something in response.
"Wha–" he started, my expression cutting him off.
"The stones are cracking and are gone. The Old Stone Circle has lost its power and is cracking." My voice was strained and frantic. "The sky...it's getting darker and cold. It feels like winter but so unnaturally cold and yet humid as well," I finished.
He looked at me, his body still as a statue as the room went silent, only the sound of my heavy pants filled the room as we stared at each other, Avalons posture stiffening.
"What's happened?" I heard Fripp say as he appeared, looking at me and then Avalon, taking in account or expressions.
"The runes are cracking and have lost their power. They're fading and something is happening to Jorvik, it's fading itself...physically." I repeated, watching as his shoulders dropped, a gasp escaped his mouth, his face bewildered.
"What?" He repeated, his voice frail and still, cautious.
"I saw it. A week ago I felt something was off in Hollow Woods and I felt it again today," I rambled, battling for breath as Avalon turned around, his posture dull and timid, sadness and anger filling the space.
"What do you mean it felt odd?" Fripp asked, eager in his tone as he turned to Avalon who was now mumbling words over and over again, trying to hold himself together from breaking. He wandered over to the bookshelf from where he was before, pressing his head against it.
"It feels off, practically spreading around-"
"Shit, shit, shit!" Avalon snapped, cutting me off sharply with a fright as he sighed, his breathing staggered and short lived.
"I'll tell the others to come now," Fripp said, hurrying off to wherever he did so and left me standing there with Avalon who now was raging.
"Why didn't you tell us sooner?" He snapped at me, turning around to face me.
"I dont know!" I snapped back, trying to stop my pounding heart. "Everything was going well and I thought I was imaging it as I was practically in the sun all day and I-"
"Do you know how important this is? Jorvik is fading away. Again."
"Yes I know, hence why I'm telling you now even though I should have told you sooner. I thought I was overreacting."
"You could have told me after instead of right at this moment," he spat, turning back towards the book shelf and placing either of his arms on the edge of the shelf, trying to take deep breaths before I heard the quick steps of Fripp returning.
"They're on their way," he said, placing a hand on my elbow and guiding me towards the bench for me to sit, taking a seat next to me as I ran through everything, knowing very well I should have said something, a mix of anger and hatred in my chest.
The room was silent again, the uncomfortable silence that everyone hated rolled in. The silence where no one knew what to say or do. The silence that held so much power and breakage and would shatter if a word was spoken wrongly.
"I'm sorry I didn't say anything sooner," I said to Avalon, steadying my voice and keeping it shallow. "With everything at Moorland and Nilmers-"
"You should have said something!" He shouted, moving away from the book shelf and pacing near the entrance. "You see something, you tell us, not ignore it and let it-"
