THE THREE KIDS FOLLOWED behind Maddie and Steve as they walked towards the lab.
"Hello?" Someone called out, Steve made everyone stop in their tracks "Why are we stopping?" Maddie whispered "Someone's out there" Steve answered
"It's Jonathan, I could recognize his voice from like a mile away" Mads said before continuing her walk
Steve followed closely behind her just in case she was wrong about this
"Steve?" Nancy and Jonathan both asked "Nancy?" Steve asked "Jonathan" Mads smiled before rushing over to him to give him a hug
"What are you guys doing here? You okay?" Jonathan asked his best friend "I'm fine, are you?" Mads asked "Yeah" Jonathan answered before hugging Maddie once again
"What are you guys doing here?" Steve asked "We're looking for Mike and Will" Nancy answered
"They're not in there, are they?" Dustin asked "We're not sure" Nancy said "Why?" Jonathan asked
After Jonathan asked that question, more screeching was heard
"That's why" Mads said "My moms in there" Jonathan said "Will is in there!" He yelled
The group all grew frustrated with trying to calm one another down
"The powers back" Nancy pointed out
The group quickly ran back to the security booth in hopes of getting the gate to open
"Let me try" Dustin said "Hang on—" "Let me try, Jonathan!" Dustin yelled, shoving Jonathan out of the way
Dustin started rapidly pressing the button but the gate didn't move
"Son of a bitch! You know what..." Dustin sighed
"I'm sensing it's broken" Mads said "Yeah, no shit" Dustin said "Then why are you still trying?" Mads asked
Just then, the gate opened
"Hey, I got it" Dustin chuckled "I got it!" He smiled
The group stayed by the gate, not daring to step foot on this property
Steve held Mads behind him just in case anything were to go down
Nancy and Jonathan quickly got in Jonathan's car then drove towards the lab, leaving Maddie and Steve with the kids once again
"We should start getting payed for this" Steve sighed as Mads stood next to him by the security booth
"Tell me about it" She laughed "This is probably the most interesting night I've had since I moved here" Maddie admitted
"Thanks for that" She smiled "Couldn't have done it without you" Steve smiled down at her
"Guys?" Max called "Move to the side!" Maddie told the three kids as Jonathan honked the horn at them
Hopper stopped his car "Let's go!" He yelled
Mads was quick to open the door for the kids, she then got in, letting Steve sit in the front
"Okay, let's go!" Steve said, with those words, Hopper sped off
Everyone got to the Byers household, Jonathan sat by a sleeping Will with Nancy over his shoulder and Maddie next to him
"I'm sorry, bud" Jonathan apologized "I should've been there" He sniffled
"You got this, Will" Mads whispered as she held one of Will's hands "He's gonna be okay" She turned to Jonathan who sadly nodded
Maddie stood up, letting Jonathan have some time with Will
"Thank you... for looking out for him" Mads thanked Nance "Anytime" Nancy smiled
Maddie nodded before walking over to her sister
"You okay?" She hugged Max "Super freaked out" Max said "I'm glad you're here" Max admitted, tightening the hug
"I love you" Max told her sister
"I love you too, kid" Mads smiled, setting a kiss to Max's head
"They didn't believe you, did they?" Dustin asked Hopper who just got off the phone
"We'll see" Hopper said
"We'll see? We can't just sit here while those things are loose!" Mike yelled "We stay here, and we wait for help" Hopper said before walking away
"Hey, you okay?" Steve asked Mads as she walked over to him
"No" Maddie answered honestly "I'm pretty freaked out" She added "Are you okay?" She asked
"No" Steve replied, honestly
"It's not about me, I just wanna make sure you're okay" He said "Your feelings matter, too" She told him as the kids started yet another argument
"Thank you" Mads said "For what?" Steve asked "Back there at the bus, for almost sacrificing yourself for Max" Mads explained
"I wouldn't say sacrifice" Steve slightly laughed "You put yourself before her, thank you" Maddie said "Anytime" Steve smiled
Maddie just hugged him, she felt sort of... safe in his arms and she didn't wanna let go
Truth was, neither of them wanted to let go, but did when the kids' argument escalated
"What do you wanna do, Mike?" Dustin asked, rising his voice
"The Chief's right on this, we can't stop those Demo-dogs on our own" Dustin said "Demo-dogs?" Mads and Max asked
"Demogorgen, dogs.... Demo-dogs" Dustin explained "It's like a compound, It's like play on words—" "Okay" Max cut him off
"I mean, when it was just Dart, maybe..." "But there's an army now" Lucas interrupted Dustin
"Precisely" Dustin said "His army" Mike said
"What do you mean?" Steve asked Mike "His army" Mike repeated "Maybe if we stop him, we can stop his army, too" Mike said
