003: welcome home

Start from the beginning

"You can't compare a child to a rabid dog", Bonnie scolded immediately. "Rebekah thinks she can help them, we owe it to her to at least let her try." She was still seeing the good in others. It was definitely her fatal flaw. Bonnie's persistence and perseverance should have been a good thing, but not when it meant she was repeatedly reaching near death for the sake of others.

"You want me to let monsters sleep under the same roof as my daughter", Klaus scowled. "They are clearly well trained killers, and I'm not comfortable with them here. What if they hurt Faith or Calliope or Nesryn? Or you? Hell, even her own actual children are at risk with them around! I get it, things like this happen, but now that I have a daughter to think of, I would like them to happen considerably less."

Rebekah's family had just gotten two sizes better, though it wasn't planned. Ansel and Niklaus, as Rebekah had so named them, were angels sent to kill Rebekah. They belonged to the Order of Light, a breed of angels whose sole purpose was to hunt supernatural creatures that harmed humans. They were trained as soldiers. It was so dehumanizing that they didn't even have names and were just 57 and 58 respectively. They were sent to kill Rebekah, and they nearly succeeded. Ansel and Niklaus had never experienced love, being given away by their parents, but they could see how much of it Rebekah had to give, how much of it surrounded her. They spared her. Unfortunately, once they took that oath, a death was required. A life had to be sacrificed in order for the angels to be satiated, so... Ansel took her own life by stabbing herself with a dagger. Niklaus, who was distraught, took his knife and did the same. Their leader gave them a second chance. Rebekah nursed them back to health, gave them names - Ansel Freya and Niklaus Finneas after her siblings - and took them for her own. Klaus was grateful that his sister had been spared, but he still couldn't shake the image of Ansel and Niklaus standing over her that way. It wasn't an act he would soon forgive.

And then there was Bonnie, who always tried her best to be kind to everyone. That was her downfall, it seemed. She took care of everyone but herself. Always. "Just give them a chance, Klaus. They might surprise you. They've been nothing but kind so far, they're trying. The boy has your name, even."

"Yeah, well, I wish he didn't", Klaus grumbled, resting his head in her lap, thus properly interrupting her crocheting. She hardly noticed, absentmindedly running her fingers through his curls as always.

"And what do you think people think about our daughter, Klaus?", Bonnie asked, raising a brow

"That's an entirely different circumstance, being a killer and the daughter of a killer is entirely different", Klaus scoffed. "Faith is not a killer, she's- she's-" He sat up immediately. He couldn't believe it had taken him so long to realize. Peace was so few and far between for them, he had been reveling in it rather than focusing. "Where is she?"
