~~~BEFORE~~~ Chapter one:
Comenzar desde el principio
I end my entry with a very un-ceremonial click of my pen, closing the leather bound journal before returning it to my bag. "What you got there?" Jacob, a black haired, leather jacket wearing insanely hot guy asks me referring to the Journal. I blush incessantly, struggling to shove the rest of my stuff in my backpack before jumping out of my seat. "Uh....nothing just something im working on." He nods "Like working on as in school, or working on as in personal?" He asks as we walk towards the door. "Personal, it's nothing really just some......ideas." I say concentrating very hard on not falling or doing anything weird whilst in his presence. "Well it's probably better than anything I write." He says smiling, my heart melts a little and I try not to look how happy I am. "Thanks, that's just my thing you know, like you're really good at....." I blank on his achievements, hesitating just a tad too long. "Algebra." He fills in for me chuckling a little, I frown in surprise. "Really?" He nods pulling out a pamphlet from his back pocket and handing it to me. Riverside Advanced Algebra Competition It reads in big bold letters. "Huh." I say "Wouldn't have pegged you as a Mathlete." I say avoiding the crush of people spilling from every classroom door now. He smiles taking back the pamphlet "We all have our secrets." He says before disappearing into the crowd. I stand stupidly there for a moment staring at his back before a voice says in my ear, "Oh Jacob, I love you, I want to have your babies, please will you sign my shirt." I slap Leon on the arm and he laughs mockingly "You are obsessed, you should get a T-shirt that says 'fan club leader of Jacob Crawley' with a picture of him and hearts and-" he's interrupted by the push of someone trying to get to their locker "you get my point." He says, pushing past people towards the other side of the school. I sigh frustrated, "Stop being amused, this is my love life we are talking about here, if I stuff it up I'm literally doomed." Leon scoffs looking over his shoulder at me "You don't have a love life, that-" he nods towards Jacob across the hall "Is your imaginary love life." He taps his head "It's all in your mind, so don't get any fancy ideas." We shove our way through to the canteen, barley making it alive. I let out a frustrated groan, "There are no more roast potatoes, I love the roast potatoes!" I say glancing at Leon. He scans the menu checking for something to eat "Do they have anything here at all?" I ask. He shakes his head "Anything worth eating is sold out." I let out a sigh "Damn it." Ugh I hate small towns, you would think in Leura we would have a very small school with a limited number of students, but no, Riverside is the only school within a 20 mile radius so basically every family within this town and a couple of the surrounding ones send their children here, it's either that or homeschool. "Stupid overpopulated school." I mumble. We stumble back towards the commons, finding a seat in the sun. I drop down onto the grass along with Leon and we both look at each other. "Did you bring any food today?" He asks the same time I say "You got any money?" Both of us shake our heads. "Why is our luck so hopeless?" I say laying down on my back and squinting up at the sky. The weather here is hopeless, since we are up in the Blue Mountains it's constantly cold but when you sit in the sun it's warm, then switch back to the shade and it's freezing. Leon shrugs "You done anything and lately? Might be karma." I ignore him, soaking in as much sunlight as I can, my skin has been looking depressingly pale and I really need a tan, I frown at my choice of words. "So how is the journal going?" Leon asks as if he could read my mind. "Okay, but it still feels weird." "Yeh, well it's good that you are still talking to me, that means you aren't too bad, most people with mental illness will just shut themselves off completely." I look at him, a serious stone invading the conversation "I'm not going to get worse Leon, it's just a phase." I wince slightly, knowing that I'm lying to him. It's not a random phase, it was me finding out about my mother who was actually dead and finding out that my dad and now stepmom have been lying to me my whole life. I just haven't gotten around to telling Leon about it yet. "Probably just PMS or something, mood swings." I say trying to lighten the mood. A sour look passes on his face as I mention periods. I smirk "Toughen up, it's a part of life, one day I'll be stranded somewhere and I'll need you to buy me pads." "Aren't they called tampons or something?" I shiver "Ugh, no. I mean yeh we can use them too but it sounds disgusting, you like shove it up your ass and it like soaks up all the blood and stuff-" He makes a gagging noise begging me to stop "Please, I'm being scarred." I chuckle "you're so sensitive." I tease sitting up to face him, "But yeh, what am I suppose to be writing about again?" He thinks about it for a second before responding "I don't know, I'm not an actual psychologist, I guess just write about why you feel depressed- I mean sad, or whatever and just write down any thoughts you think are important, what are you writing now?" He asks "Just normal stuff, introduction, explanation about my past, you know all that stuff." Well actually my new and improved past, the one where I have a dead mum, I think but don't say to Leon. "That's good, build on that, maybe write about important parts of your life, what makes you happy, the stuff you like, hopefully that'll get you to feel happier." I nod "your starting to sound pretty knowledgeable to me, I guess all that science is working out." He shrugs, "Even if the science doesn't help me with psychology at least I can use the knowledge of the human body to do other stuff." "Options, I like it." I say smiling "So big guy, what's the update?" I ask. Leon puts on a dumb face, "What do you mean?" "You know exactly what I mean, how's things going with Ashley?" I ask my voice slightly rising in pitch. He just shrugs, leaning back casually on his arms "we had our half year anniversary the other night." "And...?" I prompt him, "And.....it was nice." He says, knowing full well that he is teasing. I roll my eyes "Come on, the suspense is killing me, I need details. What did you guys do? Did you eat? Where did you go?" Leon smirks "Why do you wanna know so badly?" He asks mockingly, "Duh." I say "My life is boring and I'm using your relationship as a form of entertainment." He sighs "Well I took her out to dinner." "Where?" "Made in Italy." I nod approvingly "Pizza, good choice." He continues in a bored tone "And then I took her out to the hill and we had desert." "Awww, under the stars and everything." I swoon. "Yeh, it was nice." He dead pans. "I bet she was really pretty." He nods absently and I grow annoyed "Why are you acting so weird about it, did you guys kiss or something? Cuz girls aren't afraid to talk about those things you know." He shakes his head "I don't know it's just weird, talking about it with you." I hold my hand to my chest in an overly dramatic shocked expression, "Why would that be?" I ask "Well you are my best friend, you know in all your glory, and she is my girlfriend, I just thought it'd be awkward for you or something." A look of understanding passes my face, "It's fine, I would be happy to hang out with her 24/7 plaiting her hair if it'd make you happy, seriously, scouts honour." I say with mock-seriousness raising my right hand. Leon laughs sitting up straight and checking his watch, "Ugh, class is like in five minutes." I look around noticing the few people left lounging around in the rare sunshine. I groan "I really don't want to go to class, please don't make me." I ask pleadingly attempting (and probably failing) at doing a puppy dog face. Leon shakes his head standing up and slinging his bag over his shoulder, "Come on, get up." He says offering me his hand. I sigh in defeat grabbing it and pulling myself up. "I still have to get my stuff, I'll see you at lunch?" I say and he nods "Seya Cass." He says turning to leave. I nod waving a little before I head away from him towards the lockers.
