Fatal: Part 1 (The First Snow)

Chapter 16 (Trigger Warning)

"It's fine, Mom, I was just...out. But Chris found me." McKayla says before starting to cry again, "I'm sorry, Mommy..."

Sophie rubs McKayla's back as she continues crying. Sophie then looks up at Chris and mouths 'thank you' to him. Chris nods.

"You gonna be okay, Kayla?" Chris asks.

McKayla nods and looks up at Chris, "You'll see me tomorrow. Promise."

That night, McKayla cried herself to sleep, wearing the black hooded jacket that he gave her on that one rainy day in April, for the boy that didn't want her back.

McKayla walks outside and sees Chris sitting on the front steps of his house. He must have been waiting for her, because he stands when he sees her.

"Hey."

"Hey." McKayla repeats, walking up to him.

"Where you headed?"

"Vocal lessons."

"Your mom giving you a ride there?"

"She's hung over and won't let me use the car unless it's totally necessary, so I thought I'd walk."

"Can I give you a ride?"

"Don't you have to get to work?"

"Eh, so I'm a little late, big whoop. I wanna talk to you."

McKayla nods, knowing what he meant. She supposed she couldn't avoid this conversation forever. They got into Chris' car and drove off.

After a minute of silence, Chris speaks.

"How are you?" He asks.

McKayla places with her bracelet, "So so, I guess."

Chris nods, "So...Who's the guy?"

"What guy?"

"Yesterday you said you were upset over a guy that didn't want to be with you."

"Oh. He's just...A guy I take some classes with. " McKayla says. It wasn't technically a lie.

"Does he even know you like him?"

"No."

"Why not?"

"Well I don't think his girlfriend would appreciate it very much." McKayla says.

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay. It's a stupid thing to get upset over. I'll get over it."

Chris nods. There's a pause.

"Don't ever do something like that again, okay?" Chris asks.

"I won't."

"I mean it, Kayla." Chris says as they come to a stop sign. He looks her dead in the eyes and takes her hand, "You really scared me yesterday. Please...don't do it again."

"I won't. Promise." McKayla says, taking her hand away.

Chris pauses, then nods. He continues driving.

He decides to change the subject.

"Carlie, Ange, Kelly and I were talking about going bowling Saturday and I forgot to ask you if you could come. You in?"

"Yeah, sure."

Chris arrived home later that night. He was ready to just sit down and play his guitar into oblivion. He'd had a long couple of days.

Chris pulled his car up to his house and got out, then saw McKayla in front of her house as well. Was she just now getting home?

She was with a guy.

The guy walks away after a few minutes, leaving McKayla smiling. She then sees Chris and decides to walk over.

"Hey." She says.

"Hey." Chris repeats, "Who was that?"

"Oh. That's Jamie. He works at the music store where I take my vocal lessons. We started talking a bit and..yeah. He's really nice. He's new in town too."

Chris just nods.

"I came over 'cause I wanted to tell you that I'm not gonna be able to make it to bowling on Saturday after all."

"Oh. Okay. Why not?"

"Well, Jamie kind of...asked me out...on Saturday..."

Chris raises his eyebrows, "Oh." He states, "Cool."

"Yeah."

There's a pause.

"So, um...I'll see you tomorrow." Chris says.

McKayla nods, "See you tomorrow." She says before walking back to her house.

A/N: Awkward. So the character of Jamie has finally arrived! He's going to make this story so much more interesting and I am so excited. The actor for him is Chad Michael Murray. Any One Tree Hill fans? If so, then the bridge McKayla was standing on at the beginning of this chapter, picture it like the one that Uncle Cooper drove the limo off of.

So what did you guys think of this chapter? I liked it. And you guys are really gonna like the next couple chapters because Chris' reaction to Jamie is gonna make you guys happy, haha.
