Ryan Bender woke up to the same thing every day. Her mother would yell and scream at her, calling her a mistake and a waste of space.
"You're the reason they're dead," she would yell.
"You're the worst thing that has ever happened to me!"
"I wouldn't even shed one tear if you dropped dead today!"
And those comments were said when she was sober.
When her mother was drunk, Ryan would be beaten. And Ryan, though she could, never fought back because some part of her wanted to believe that the woman she loved as a child would come back to her.
Ryan coped with her home life through alcohol, drugs, and party. Also, books and music. She liked all these things because they took her to a different place. A happy place.
