Hyunjin was never like this. He would've never thought that one day he will be there, sitting on a plain white bed in plain white clothes, staring at the plain white ceiling. His eyes which once was enough to hold the entire universe now remained blank and confused. The same scene kept repeating in his mind reminding him of his loss every second.
"You better eat something today, for her atleast", The nurse placed the tray in front of him. Hyunjin stared at the food, not feeling an appetite.. he never felt like eating. Still he made the effort to take a hold of the fork like always and just like that he felt his tears rolling down his cheeks, because of the one photo frame that always stayed beside him
It was his favourite photo. You were laughing as you were hugging a little girl, her eyes filled with love . It was the last photo he took of you and his daughter before the biggest tragedy he could experience took place.
And the scene replayed, It was the day he could've never forget. The three of you were supposed to shift in the new house which was visible in background of the photo. It was supposed to be a new beginning for both of you and your child and he wanted to capture the moment and so he did. The photo was clicked as Hyunjin smiled looking at the screen of the camera, as you and your daughter went inside the house excited to explore. But everything was supposed to cost a price and this was the debt Hyunjin had to live with forever
He went to the car to bring out boxes and that was when he heard, slight shaking of the ground with a loud rumble followed by your scream, calling out his name. He turned around only to see the entire house fall down in front of his eyes and he couldn't do anything, but still he wanted to run in but was stopped by the neighbours as by now people had started to gather around. Everything was crumpling down as he just stood there unable to move, or even say a word. The bodies of his wife and daughter were never found in between the dust and the bricks but as if it was an apology from god, an officer handed him a diamond ring and a small pink bag found at the scene

And after that nothing stayed the same. Hyunjin began to lose himself as every day passed by. Concerned for him, his mother convinced him to seek help but unfortunately that ended him to be hospitalised under severe medications and supervision but nothing seemed to change. 5 years had past away and he still couldn't make himself to think about anything other than the two most beautiful women in his life who he was sure to spend his entire future with.
A slice of cake rested on a small plate which he had specifically requested. It was your birthday and he could not let the day end without your favourite flavoured cake. The tears kept falling down as he recalled every memory with you. Your first date with him where he had embarrassed himself and was sure he won't see you again but then you texted. From then it was a blur filled with love, a few fights but a hell lot of laughter. He recalled the day he saw you in the white gown, smiling at him 'till death do us apart' . Then when he thought he couldn't be happier, you gave him his child, your daughter. He thought he could never fall in love with anyone else but you proved him wrong as held her in his arms, the smile not leaving his face.
But now they were only bits of memory he could only think about. It haunts him. Doesn't allow him to sleep. The life he once thought to be beautiful just turned out ugly and deceiving. He hadn't die but didn't have the courage to live. Every night he prayed to be carried away in sleep but every morning he woke up to relive the same day filled with the same thoughts
